Leeds reflects on housebuilding

  • last month
The government wants to build 1.5m new homes by 2029 but 57% of people have no confidence we'll meet targets. How do you feel about the need for housing - will 1.5m homes cut it or is it not enough? How confident are you we'll meet targets?

00:00One of my children is living in a rented house, paying, effectively paying somebody's pension.
00:06It concerns me how she'll get a deposit for her own house. So, yeah, I do think we need to build
00:14a lot more houses. I find it quite sad that whenever you see new builds there seem to be
00:21three, four bed luxury homes which are obviously more profitable for the developers than
00:27smaller affordable homes. I know possibly, you know, the problem is also that we're building
00:33on land which is currently not built upon and that's maybe a problem in terms of the environment
00:39and, I don't know, I mean the amount of space that people live in has increased quite dramatically
00:45over the past, say, hundred years and, I don't know, maybe we should kind of live in slightly
00:50less space, each person less space, live a bit closer together and that would be better,
00:54there'd be easier, there'd be more space to go around and it'd be better for the environment.
