00:00Construction work is set to begin on an extra care housing scheme on brownfield land between
00:07Armley Grove Place and Simpson Grove.
00:10Leeds City Council's Middle Cross development will be home to 65 high-quality and energy-efficient
00:15apartments providing independent living opportunities for older people.
00:19The three-storey complex will also have care facilities and communal spaces, including
00:24a 50-seat dining area.
00:26The scheme is set to regenerate a two-acre site that has been unused following the demolition
00:30of Middle Cross Day Centre in 2018.
00:33The apartments are being built to energy-efficient specifications and will benefit from high
00:37levels of insulation and the use of ground-source heat pump technology.
00:41The new homes will also be available for affordable rent and the Council have said that by increasing
00:46the number of appropriate properties available to tenants looking to downsize, more homes
00:51for larger families will become available.
00:53Construction is due to start in March with completion scheduled for early 2027.
