Businesses across Bristol’s Old Market have boarded up their shops amidst rumour of further right-wing demonstrations in the city.
Unconfirmed posts have been circulating online since Monday claiming anti-immigration protestors are organising more rallies in as many as up to 20 English towns today (August 7).
Deputy Chief Constable Jon Reilley from Avon and Somerset Police said: “We’re aware of posts circulating online calling for people to gather in Bristol night and I want to reassure you we’ll have significant resources in place to maintain order and keep people safe.”
However, businesses and community groups across Old Market appear not to be taking chances and have boarded up their shops in preparation of any potential disruptions breaking out tonight.
Some of the shops in the area have closed up early not opened at all today including The Gossip Nail Bar, Good Store Studio, Old Market Barber, Ome and Bodkin Bakes.
