First look at the refurbished Cavendish Hotel in Baslow

00:00I'm Steve Daly, I'm the resident manager of the Cavendish Hotel in Baslow, which is part of the

00:05Chatsworth Estate. The 28-bedroom Cavendish Hotel has recently undergone significant multi-million

00:12pound refurbishment, encompassing the entire hotel with the integration of a brand new fully

00:18electric kitchen, new restaurants, all public areas which have been refurbished as well,

00:24and every single one of those 28 bedrooms also. The refurbishment was done over the watchful eye

00:30of Laura Burlington, Lady Burlington, the daughter-in-law to the Duke of Devonshire.

00:37She was working alongside Nicola Harding, who was the main designer, who worked on the project,

00:42and encompassed local makers, suppliers, to get that feel from around the estate.

00:51We've also championed as well local foods and local suppliers for everything from the

00:59local dairy, the meat from the estate, vegetables from the kitchen gardens on the estate as well,

01:03have all been part of that change to the hotel also. As well as that, Laura Burlington, Lady

01:10Burlington, really wanted to make sure that there was a real touch from the estate's extensive art

01:16collection. As you walk around all of the bedrooms and any of the public areas, you'll see

01:21there's a huge selection of artwork and ceramics. The artwork has been sourced directly from the

01:27Devonshire family's own collection from the house. It contains artists such as Elizabeth Frink,

01:36Phil de Barlo, Lisa Bryce, Elizabeth Paynton, lots of watercolours of the house and the grounds

01:43alongside some of the more contemporary works and the black and white history.

01:48You'll see around the bar area as well some of the actual some of the family. The hotel is

01:54extremely lucky, fortunate, that it's got absolutely unrivaled access to the estate. It includes

02:02specialised private tours when the house is closed for our guests. We also do additional

02:10packages and prestige packages for those customers who are looking to go that extra mile.

02:17For the Devonshire Hotel Restaurant Group, we're the first in its series of planned developments.

02:24They're looking for lots of future opportunities. The group currently comprises of not just the

02:29Cavendish Hotel, but there's two country inns, which is the Devonshire Arms at Beely,

02:33the Devonshire Arms at Pilsner, which are our little sister. There are 25 holiday cottages,

02:38including the Hunting Tower, which is on the main estate, and then also encompassing the

02:4430,000 acre Bolton Abbey estate also as well, and the Yorkshire Dales, where our bigger sister,

02:52Devonshire Hotel and Spa and the Devonshire Fella are situated. And then finally the estate

02:59also has in its arsenal the Lismore Castle in County Waterford, which is over in Ireland.
