PCG at VCG, nagsagawa ng fire fighting exercise sa bukana ng WPS

Transcript
00:00In the first instance, the Philippine Coast Guard and the Vietnam Coast Guard conducted a bilateral exercise.
00:08This is also the first time that the Philippines joined a bilateral exercise of a country
00:14that is also a claimant in the West Philippine Sea.
00:17Where did this bilateral exercise take place?
00:20Let's find out in the story of Ryan Lizigues.
00:23A large ship was bombed by a small Philippine Coast Guard ship in the West Philippine Sea.
00:30But this is not an accident.
00:32Just like what the China Coast Guard is doing to the Philippine ships in Yongin Shoal
00:38during the Rory Mission.
00:40This is a part of the first bilateral exercise between the Philippine Coast Guard and the Vietnam Coast Guard.
00:48The first thing that the Philippine Coast Guard and the Vietnam Coast Guard did was the firefighting exercise.
00:53The scenario is that the Philippine Coast Guard and the Vietnam Coast Guard received a distress call from a burning ship.
01:00When they arrived at the scene, they immediately bombed it with a water cannon to extinguish the fire.
01:05The Philippine Coast Guard immediately deployed their helicopter to conduct aerial surveillance
01:11and immediately saw the people who jumped into the sea because of the fire.
01:16The Philippine Coast Guard and the Vietnam Coast Guard also deployed their Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats
01:22to conduct a search and rescue operation
01:25to save the two people who were immediately killed by the first wave.
01:29At this point, the passing exercise is being carried out between the Philippines and Vietnam.
01:34This point is important because this is where the Philippine Coast Guard and the Vietnam Coast Guard
01:40and the people of the Vietnam Coast Guard meet to show respect to each other.
01:48It is a good activity because at least we have seen scenarios that we need to improve.
02:00This activity of the Philippine Coast Guard in collaboration with the Vietnam Coast Guard is very good
02:13because at least we will have regional cooperation between the ASEAN nations.
02:22For us in the Philippine Coast Guard, we have learned a lot and there is so much room for improvement.
02:32This is the first bilateral exercise between the Philippines and Vietnam,
02:36which is the same claimant in the West Philippine Sea.
02:38It aims to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
02:43At least we will have good collaboration and cooperation with the claimants of the West Philippine Sea.
02:55Being an ASEAN nation, it is good to have at least one direction,
03:03which is a rules-based approach of the Philippines.
03:07We hope also that the Vietnam Coast Guard, particularly the Vietnam government,
03:12will also do away or follow with the Philippine government
03:18in enhancing or following the rules-based approach here in the West Philippine Sea.
03:27There will be 80 crew members of the VCG and more than 100 from the PCG.
03:33According to the PCG, this symbolizes the shared objectives of the two countries
03:39when it comes to marine safety and security.
03:42The purpose of the joint maritime drills between the PCG and VCG
03:46is to improve interoperability and operational readiness
03:50as an active member of the ASEAN Coast Guard Forum or ACF.
03:55The PCG used the BRP Gabriela Silang A301, the FPV Boracay 2401,
04:02and one of the PCG's helicopters.
04:04Although it was done in the waters of the West Philippine Sea,
04:07the PCG said that it has nothing to do with the ongoing tensions
04:11between the Philippines and China in the WPS.
04:14This is purely a humanitarian exercise, humanitarian visit,
04:20and also a goodwill visit of the Vietnam Coast Guard.
04:23This January, the PCG and VCG agreed to form a Joint Coast Guard Committee
04:30and Hotline Communication Mechanism.
04:32This August 5, the VCG vessel CSB 8002 arrived in the country
04:38for a four-day port call that will last until today, August 9.
04:43From here in the West Philippine Sea,
04:46Ryan Lizigas for Pambansang TV in the new Philippines.
