CAPTAIN AMERICA BRAVE NEW WORLD Comic Con Trailer Breakdown and Easter Eggs
Transcript
00:00You're just a pawn
00:09You may be Captain America, but you're not Steve Rogers
00:20You're right I'm not
00:30Welcome back everyone, it's Charlie. Marvel released a new Captain America Brave New World trailer at Comic-Con with way more Red Hulk, Thunderbolt, Ross.
00:42They finally confirmed which character Giancarlo Esposito is playing and way more talk of the Celestial Teammate and Adamantium and how they're going to explain it inside the MCU.
00:51So we'll break it all down.
00:52Really big reminder too, D23 is this weekend. As of me posting this video, Marvel's supposed to release a bunch more trailers for their shows specifically.
01:00Like all the movies were for Comic-Con, they're doing all the show stuff at D23.
01:04There are a lot of people that think we're going to be getting that first Daredevil Born Again trailer.
01:08Whatever they wind up doing, of course I will do all the videos for it. So be sure to subscribe if you're brand new to the channel.
01:14During the new Captain America trailer at Comic-Con, the footage shows Harrison Ford's Thunderbolt Ross at a briefing where Isaiah Bradley tries to kill him,
01:22going full Winter Soldier on him after some music plays, like a trigger conditioning that he's received, forcing him to go nuts.
01:28They haven't revealed who's responsible for conditioning him, but I have a feeling it has something to do with what the Leader is doing and also what the Serpent Society is doing.
01:36The Leader from the Incredible Hulk movie, Tim Blake Nelson's coming back, he's supposed to be the actual main villain of the film.
01:42A lot of Hulk-related stuff happening in the movie, not least of all Red Hulk.
01:46But before he goes all ham on Thunderbolt Ross, he holds the briefing talking about the dead Celestial Tiamat,
01:51he refers to the emergence and the fact that it literally grew inside the earth and clawed its way out.
01:56And this is the big canonical change from the comics.
01:59During his briefing, he confirms that part of Tiamat's body is made of raw adamantium.
02:04In the MCU, that's the closest equivalent they have to pure adamantium from the comics.
02:09Like Wolverine, for instance, has pure adamantium in his body.
02:13Most of the other adamantium that shows up around the MCU is actually a derivative of the original, purest form of adamantium.
02:19So like, not everybody has that purest form. Wolverine just happens to be one of the people.
02:23But the idea in the MCU is that this pure, raw form of adamantium just grew on Tiamat's body.
02:29Celestials in the MCU and in the comics can use pretty much anything, any resources around them available to them, to create their bodies.
02:36So for instance, there are some celestials that have some vibranium in their bodies.
02:39But because vibranium is so rare around the universe, that's why you don't see every single celestial being made of 100% vibranium.
02:47Same thing with adamantium. Like, their entire body isn't made of adamantium.
02:51In the trailer, Thunderbolt Ross says,
02:53When a celestial mass emerged in the Indian Ocean, we did what we often do.
02:58We squabbled over it, countries rushed in to claim it as their own, setting up research facilities to exploit its resources.
03:05But the truth is, this new element belongs to all of us.
03:08Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you adamantium.
03:11It's in a secure location, and we have our own Captain America to thank for that.
03:16And he's talking about Sam Wilson's Captain America.
03:19What he's referring to is the mission we see them on throughout the trailers,
03:22where Sam Wilson's Captain America and Taurus's Falcon in his new Falcon wingsuit,
03:26like you can see him in the trailer here, together flying.
03:28They're flying around the celestial's dead body, dodging all these Japanese planes.
03:33In the movie, Captain America and Falcon recover some adamantium from one of the Japanese dig sites on Tiamat's body,
03:39and return it to Thunderbolt Ross.
03:41So the big battle you see around Tiamat's body with the Japanese planes and the U.S. ship
03:45is part of them taking some of that adamantium from the Japanese dig site.
03:49They're basically yoinking the adamantium and bringing it back to Thunderbolt Ross,
03:53who wants to, as you can guess, use it to make weapons from.
03:56Exploit it, aka Weapons Plus, like the next iteration of Weapons Plus.
04:00You may remember William Hurt's version of Thunderbolt Ross.
04:03I mean, it's the same character they recast with Harrison Ford,
04:06because William Hurt passed away recently, R.I.P.
04:09But a lot of the movie is referencing the Incredible Hulk movie.
04:11In the Incredible Hulk, he talks specifically to the Abomination about the Weapons Plus program,
04:17and how, just like in the comics, it's an evolution of the Super Soldier program.
04:21Banner's work was very early phase.
04:24It wasn't even weapons application.
04:26He thought he was working on radiation resistance.
04:29I would never have told him what the project really was.
04:32Basically, the military trying to create Super Soldiers in different ways,
04:35through different iterations of the Weapons Plus program,
04:37like Weapon 1, Weapon 2, Weapon 3, and so on.
04:40Wolverine, Weapon X, is just the evolution of that eventually in a Canadian facility.
04:45So a lot of people feel like this is Kevin Feige slowly introducing the idea
04:49and the things that are necessary to have an MCU version of Wolverine rise up
04:53at some point in the future,
04:54but because Hugh Jackman is doing gangbusters in Deadpool and Wolverine
04:58because he kills it so hard, that movie is about to make a billion dollars.
05:02They're supposedly going to be keeping him around even longer than they were originally.
05:06There's even a joke in the movie where Deadpool says that
05:08Disney is going to keep making Hugh Jackman play Wolverine until he's 90.
05:12Now, because the movie is making so much money,
05:14they probably will make him play Wolverine until he's 90.
05:17Kevin Feige said he doesn't have any plans to recast for a new Wolverine anytime soon.
05:22It doesn't mean he'll never recast, like eventually there will be a new version of Wolverine.
05:25But I think the idea for like a good long while,
05:27we're just going to be seeing Hugh Jackman's version of Wolverine.
05:30Later in that new Comic-Con trailer, Thunderbolt Ross talks to Sam Wilson saying,
05:34we haven't always agreed in the past,
05:36but what you've accomplished has made me reconsider
05:39and is why I want you to help me rebuild the Avengers.
05:42This country needs this.
05:44Work with me, Sam.
05:46We'll show the world a better way forward.
05:48So it's Thunderbolt Ross basically asking Anthony Mackie's Captain America
05:53to form a new Avengers team with the remnants of the Avengers
05:56that are still alive after Avengers Endgame and new characters.
06:00But this is before they go at odds with each other before he turns into Red Hulk.
06:04Like this is at the beginning of the movie.
06:06Then in another scene, we get a bunch more Red Hulk footage.
06:09So Harrison Ford's Thunderbolt Ross is holding this briefing at the White House
06:12with a bunch of world leaders.
06:14And in the middle of the briefing, like when he's giving his speech,
06:16he just randomly turns into Red Hulk, like goes crazy.
06:20I think this is part of a long plan, like a long con
06:23that the leader is pulling off as part of a revenge plot.
06:25During the trailers, we see the leader peeping Thunderbolt Ross from afar.
06:29I think the idea is that he's going to turn him into Red Hulk to get revenge on him,
06:32like cause him to go crazy out of control.
06:34And just like Bruce Banner was originally when he first became the Hulk,
06:38just would not be able to control himself.
06:40We'll probably get more Red Hulk footage
06:42the next time they've released Nick's official trailer publicly.
06:45Giancarlo Esposito also made a big deal of officially revealing his character.
06:49Like he turned to Kevin Feige on stage and was like,
06:50I'm allowed to say who I am, right?
06:52It's okay to say now.
06:53He's playing Seth Volker, aka Sidewinder, the king of the Serpent Society.
06:58Can I say it?
07:00I am.
07:01Can I say it?
07:02I can say it.
07:03Wow, can finally unleash it.
07:06I am the king of the Serpent Society.
07:10I am Seth Volker Sidewinder.
07:14In the MCU, his character will be the creator of the Serpent Society.
07:18But because the leader is meant to be the actual main villain,
07:21he might just be trying to pull everyone's strings, using them against each other.
07:25The way that Tim Blake Nelson described the leader during the events of this movie,
07:28you have to imagine a bunch of time has gone by since the events of the Incredible Hulk movie,
07:32and he said that his leader character is trying to get what he feels is owed to him
07:37by the government in Thunderbolt Ross.
07:39So I think the idea is that he's been running experiments for him,
07:42like he's been working for him since the events of Incredible Hulk,
07:45because he had all this knowledge and gamma energy and powers that Bruce Banner was working on,
07:50and all this access to Bruce Banner's Hulk blood.
07:52So I think Thunderbolt Ross had him working for him secretly,
07:55but has been doing him dirty ever since.
07:58So the leader gets pissed off and starts trying to take what he feels is owed to him
08:02and get revenge on Thunderbolt Ross.
08:04My assumption is that Captain America just gets caught in the crossfire,
08:07like he's caught in the middle of that.
08:09So technically, even though you see him fighting Red Hulk during the trailers,
08:11Captain America versus Red Hulk,
08:14technically the leader is still the main villain.
08:16Couple big comic book connections here too.
08:18The leader character was part of the intelligentsia in the comics.
08:21In the comics, it was the intelligentsia that turned Thunderbolt Ross into Red Hulk.
08:26But a big part of the way they did that involved a big fight
08:29with the actual Bruce Banner version of Hulk.
08:31So it's not totally clear if Bruce Banner Hulk is going to appear during this movie.
08:35Mark Ruffalo made it sound like he wasn't in the movie, but he might have been lying.
08:39What'll probably happen, because we just got that teaser for Red Hulk at the end of this trailer,
08:43is that we'll see a much better version of him in the next big trailer,
08:46like a full-on frontal shot.
08:47Full frontal Red Hulk action.
08:50When it comes to all the Hugh Jackman Wolverine, Weapon X, Adamantium stuff,
08:53I think they're just laying the track for a new MCU version of Wolverine.
08:57Hugh Jackman is still supposed to be the main version of Wolverine
09:00through at least Secret Wars.
09:01He might stick around even a little bit longer than that.
09:04But Marvel is making their new solo X-Men movie
09:06with like new versions of the characters inside the MCU eventually.
09:10That probably won't happen till after Secret Wars.
09:12And they do a big soft reboot on the MCU just in general.
09:16Supposedly, they're not going to recast Wolverine and introduce a new MCU version
09:19till well after that.
09:20So like the new version of Wolverine will not debut in that new X-Men movie.
09:24So what they can do in this movie is just lay the track work for Weapon X
09:28to actually become a thing by introducing the concept of Adamantium in the MCU.
09:33This new female character, I think, is meant to be his new love interest during the movie.
09:37There's a funeral scene.
09:39It's not clear who it's a funeral for,
09:41because it seems like there's a lot of people there.
09:43They also brought the Betty Ross character, Liv Tyler's Betty Ross,
09:46back from Incredible Hulk, and she's at the funeral too.
09:49There's only a couple people she would probably show up to a funeral for,
09:52and one of them would be her father, President Thunderbolt Ross.
09:55Maybe they tried to play it like he's killed during the events of the movie
09:58and then brought back as Red Hulk.
10:00Generally, a lot of Hulk-based stuff is going to be in this movie,
10:04mostly from the Incredible Hulk movie.
10:06This seems like it's happening at the Leader's Lab like we saw earlier,
10:09but a bunch of these men, maybe they're working for the Leader, try to stop him.
10:12But their gear kind of looks like military gear.
10:15So like I said, the Leader might have had this secret base
10:18on the purview of Thunderbolt Ross,
10:20like he might have been working for Thunderbolt Ross in this place.
10:23This is a good way to show you that Captain America's vibranium shield dissipates energy.
10:28This woman that it seems like he's interrogating
10:30is meant to be a former Black Widow played by Shira Haas.
10:33I don't know what her name in the context of the movie is going to be,
10:36but she's now working for Thunderbolt Ross and has his trust,
10:39is part of his inner circle.
10:41So that's probably why she's being interrogated after this attack by Isaiah Bradley.
10:45Natasha Black Widow was very critical to Steve Rogers' character
10:49in those Captain America movies.
10:50Not clear if we're going to see Yelena Belova at any point during this
10:53because she's kind of taken over the persona of Black Widow inside the MCU.
10:57Right now in present day, she's mostly thought of as a Thunderbolt's character,
11:00like we saw her in that teaser trailer they released earlier this year.
11:03But there's so many Easter eggs and references going on during this.
11:06If there's anything you spotted in the trailer footage that I didn't talk about in the video,
11:09just write them below in the comments and I'll add them to my next bonus videos.
11:13What they might do later is because Venom The Last Dance, like Venom 3,
11:16is coming out pretty soon.
11:18They might attach the next big Captain America trailer to that.
11:21We'll probably get an official Fantastic Four trailer sometime at the end of the year,
11:25maybe like a teaser, just because that movie is coming out in July next year.
11:28So they don't want to wait too long before they start actually teasing it.
11:31I've already done much bigger videos on the Fantastic Four Comic-Con trailer,
11:35the Thunderbolts Comic-Con trailer, and that Robert Downey Jr. Doctor Doom teaser.
11:39So I'll link those below in the comments and at the end of this.
11:41Click here for that Fantastic Four Comic-Con trailer
11:44and click here to learn all about the alternate endings,
11:47all the deleted scenes, the deleted cameos from Deadpool and Wolverine.
11:51Thank you so much for watching, and I'll see you guys in the next one.
