00:00Bangladesh's Chief Justice and Central Bank Governor have resigned amid escalating student
00:07protests that have expanded to target high-ranking officials appointed during Prime Minister
00:13Sheikh Hasina's tenure.
00:15The unrest has already forced Hasina to flee the country.
00:18In a Facebook video post, Law Ministry Adviser Asif Nazrul revealed that Chief Justice Obaidul
00:24Hassan resigned after students threatened him with dire consequences if he did not step
00:29down.
00:30Meanwhile, Finance Ministry Adviser Salahuddin Ahmed told reporters that the resignation of
00:36Bangladesh Bank Governor Abdur Ruf Talukder has not yet been accepted due to the critical
00:42nature of his role.
00:43Just days earlier, four deputy governors were forced to resign following protests by 300
00:49to 400 bank officials who accused senior management of corruption.
00:54The unrest has also led to the resignation of Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor A.S.M.
01:00Maqsood Kamal.
01:02The university has been at the epicentre of deadly protests since July, initially sparked
01:08by anger over government job quotas.
01:11The movement has since evolved into a broader campaign aimed at ousting Prime Minister Hasina.
01:18Hasina has been sheltering in New Delhi, India since Monday after uprisings, which
01:22resulted in the deaths of about 300 people, mostly students, effectively ended her 15-year
01:28rule in Bangladesh.
01:30In response to the unrest, the country has undergone significant security changes, including
01:36the appointment of new leaders for the police, intelligence agency and senior military positions.
