We analyse Rovers' 4-1 win over Accrington
Transcript
00:00Good evening from the Ecopower after Grover's pretty convincing 4-1 win on the opening day of the season.
00:07Yeah, couldn't have really gone better. Better day at the office, really.
00:11Like I say, four goals, three points. It was just put to Grant McCann not long ago and he was pretty content with it.
00:18You know, he's never happy. He always strives for more, strives for more goals.
00:22And to be fair, he really should have had more goals today.
00:25He scored four, but Luke Mollen knew he could have had four himself.
00:29Hit the crossbar, chipped an effort wide. Gibson at the post, early doors.
00:33Billy Sharp should have scored with his first touch.
00:36Obviously made amends for that later on.
00:38But yeah, couldn't have really gone much better in terms of an afternoon for Grover's.
00:42It was an interesting one because they started really at it and then the game kind of fell a bit flat.
00:50Accrington's tactics were quite evident today.
00:53But then Mollen knew he broke the deadlock just before half-time and that felt key.
00:57It felt like they had the real bit between the teeth.
01:00And then they come out for the second half and kind of hit with a sucker punch really.
01:04Accrington drawing level through Walton's header at the back post.
01:07Just a little bit of a switch off from Sterry.
01:09And then they drew it, obviously drew level at that point.
01:13But I thought the reaction from Rovers was really impressive because they came straight out of the blocks.
01:18Like I said, Mollen knew.
01:20Went close with his effort.
01:22I think he hit the bar just after that and then scored a screamer for the second goal.
01:26And after that there was only one outcome really.
01:28It was just a case of how many.
01:30Jordan Gibson who I thought was brilliant today.
01:32I think it was a toss-up between him and Mollen knew for who was man of the match.
01:36He scored a really good goal. Mollen knew with the assist as well.
01:39And then to cap it off, Billy Sharp comes off the bench and scores his 250th career league goal.
01:46The start score is a thoroughly convincing win and a thoroughly encouraging win as well.
01:51So hopefully it's a sign of things to come.
01:54Rovers right in the mood today and they keep that unbeaten run going as well.
01:58I think they've got to go back to Walsall for the last time.
02:00They lost a league, a regular league game.
02:02So yeah, all bodes well.
02:04Spoke to Grafken afterwards and he was talking about another addition.
02:08I know he mentioned it on the press conference day.
02:13But yeah, that's one on the back burner.
02:16So one to look out for.
02:18So yeah, I think that'll probably be the final addition.
02:20I would imagine it'll be a loan as well.
02:22So once that's through the door that'll be nine additions.
02:25So yeah, it all bodes well.
02:27And on to Salford on Tuesday.
02:29So yeah, thanks for tuning in.
02:30There's plenty of content over at the Free Press website.
02:32We've got the ratings up.
02:34We've got Grant's reaction piece from tonight.
02:36And there'll be plenty more going up between now and that game at Salford on Tuesday.
