Transcript
00:00The DFA is facing a hearing by the Camera today for their allocation of funds for the next year.
00:07Meanwhile, a diplomatic protest broke out between the Philippines and China following the incident
00:14between the People's Liberation Army Air Force and the Philippine Air Force.
00:20The center of the news is brought to you by Sue Jin Kim Live.
00:24Aljo, last morning at 9am, the House Committee on Appropriations heard about the proposed budget of the Department of Foreign Affairs for the next year.
00:37Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo himself faced the committee where he stated in his presentation that more than P27 billion is needed for the fiscal year 2025.
00:51This is from their last budget of more than P22 billion.
00:5510% increase from our current budget.
00:59Secretary Manalo hopes that the lawmakers will support their proposal so that they can continue to serve and provide services to the Filipinos.
01:09We'll go a long way in ensuring the fulfillment of our mandate to the Filipino people.
01:15We wish to assure our partners, your honors, that the department is earnestly doing its part in ensuring the timely spending of the government's budget as instructed by the president.
01:27The DFA explained that their budget is for the following, consular services, cultural diplomacy, public diplomacy, and organizational development.
01:37Secretary Manalo also shared the success of the agency last year.
01:42They even surpassed their target.
01:45The DFA also assured that they will strengthen their services, especially when it comes to consular affairs through digitalization.
01:54This includes internet voting or the preparation for the 2025 national elections overseas.
02:00It is also followed by the e-Apostille or the system where they can apply online for PSAE certificates and e-Apostilles.
02:09I find your P27 billion budget very small.
02:13And I would like to ask the Secretary, what are others?
02:18You know the DBM will always, the DBM is here correct?
02:21I'm sure you submitted a higher budget.
02:25How much was submitted and how much was slashed?
02:28Meanwhile, the new diplomatic protest was issued by the government of the Philippines against China.
02:34This is followed by the dangerous and suspicious actions of the People's Liberation Army Air Force inside the maritime zone of the Philippines.
02:42It became a threat to the lives of the Filipino pilots of the Philippine Air Force, the dangerous maneuvers made by China, where they lost the flares on the way of the PAF.
02:54Even though this is just a routine maritime patrol in Bajo de Macinlo.
02:59Strong condemnation of the incident and the fact that the Philippine Air Force jet plane posed no threat to the PLA Air Force.
03:10And therefore, these were local flight operations and they did not violate any sovereignty or jurisdiction.
03:18They're within our rights and they entered over our airspace.
03:22So they were undertaken over our airspace.
03:25And those were the main points we stressed to China.
03:31Aljo, Secretary Manalo gave a warning that the national interest of the country is being supported by the Philippines.
03:39Therefore, these actions have nothing to do with the rivalry between the US and China.
03:44Aljo.
03:46Thank you very much, Sujin Kim.
