Punto De Vista: Paggamit ng mga Pinoy sa social media

Transcript
00:00There are a lot of Filipinos now that we can say are on social media.
00:03Because here, no matter what state you're in, you have the power to influence and give your own opinion.
00:10That's what Professor Antonio Contreras will discuss in Punto de Vista, Professor.
00:22Good morning to all of you in the studio.
00:26You know, it's the age of social media.
00:32It's becoming rare for people to not have a Facebook account.
00:37Others even have Twitter and TikTok.
00:41Because of this, news is very accessible to us.
00:47And sometimes, we are the ones who make the news.
00:53It's very easy to make a comment now.
00:57No matter what we're watching or listening to,
01:01it's easy for us to post our own opinions about things, especially politics.
01:08They say that public discourse has become accessible.
01:13Politics has become accessible.
01:17In the past, you had to wait for a long time to know what was happening,
01:23what the President said, what the Vice President said.
01:28Now, it's almost instant.
01:31It's there. It's already on Facebook.
01:34You can hold it in your hand.
01:36No matter where you are, you're sitting, you're lying down.
01:42It's good to repeat this.
01:45They say that politics has become more open to the participation of people,
01:52especially those who give their opinions.
01:57But on the other hand, this brings a new problem.
02:03Because it's so easy to post anything,
02:07people sometimes don't even think about what they're posting.
02:13You might think that they're just talking, gossiping, and will post it right away.
02:20It's like they're talking to their friends,
02:24but they're forgetting that they're talking to the whole world.
02:29That's why it's there.
02:31The scope of the possibility of fake news is expanding.
02:41Because the gossips, gossip, and opinions that are not based on facts,
02:49but are based on exaggeration and sometimes high propaganda,
02:55can easily spread.
02:57Another thing that's hurting people on social media
03:01is the extent to which people can insult others
03:07when their opinions are not in line with theirs.
03:12Because if you're on social media and you're just posting on Facebook,
03:16you won't face the people you call stupid or stupid.
03:20You won't be able to punch or slap them.
03:24But if you face them and call them stupid or stupid,
03:28you might get a black eye.
03:33So it's very easy to get insulted.
03:37As a social media personality and as a commentator,
03:45I've been a veteran of these things for a long time.
03:49If you insult a politician, he will immediately call you anything.
03:55In the past, I was called bald.
03:57Now that I have hair, I don't know what to call it.
04:01I'm called stupid. I'm called stupid.
04:05It's easy to call a person stupid.
04:08Especially when the person's words are contrary to what you want to hear.
04:15For example, if I criticize a politician,
04:21my fellow politicians will say that I was paid to criticize that person.
04:28If you defend a politician because he is doing the right thing,
04:34they will say that you were paid to be an apologist.
04:40Maybe because a lot of people think that they will only speak for democracy
04:48where it is free to speak if there is a payment.
04:52It's like you need to pay to speak,
04:57you need to pay to criticize a person or a politician,
05:01or you need to pay to praise a good deed.
05:06That's where we have a problem.
05:09People seem to be blind to their beliefs.
05:14It's like they are worshipping their political idols.
05:18If they are criticized, what will they say to those who criticize them?
05:28You know, in democracy, we are all free.
05:33In democracy, it is free to speak.
05:37It is free to lead.
05:39It is free to criticize.
05:41But another aspect of democracy is justice.
05:46If we are just pure, if we are just pure,
05:51there is no justice, there is no truth.
05:54What we are looking for is noise.
05:57We cannot help democracy.
06:01Democracy is also used by the mind, not just by the heart and anger.
06:07We should learn to be objective.
06:11We should not be political.
06:14If we are doing the right thing, we should praise it.
06:19If we are doing the wrong thing, we should criticize it.
06:23And if we can hear a person criticizing,
06:30or praising our political idol,
06:34we should listen to him.
06:36We should not say that he is ugly or bad,
06:40or that he should be punished.
06:42Maybe there is a point.
06:44Maybe you are too close-minded,
06:47maybe you are too blind to your idol,
06:51to your attachment to that politician.
06:53You forget that sometimes you are fighting with your relative,
06:58your friend, and he does not even know you.
07:02He is a politician, maybe you do not know him yet.
07:05Maybe you will get sick and he will not bring you to the hospital.
07:10But the people you are fighting with,
07:12your friends, your relatives,
07:14they are the ones who will be with you during a crisis.
07:18I repeat, in a democracy, we have the freedom to speak.
07:24But it is not just freedom that we should think about.
07:29We should also think about responsibility.
07:32We should also think about having a basis for what we are saying.
07:38Is there justice?
07:41Let us not be led astray by blind faith.
07:46God is not a politician.
07:49Those people are not perfect.
07:51They make mistakes.
07:52If it is right, correct it.
07:55If it is wrong, correct it.
07:58That is all for my Puto TV for today.
08:00Thank you very much.
08:01You may return to the studio.
08:04Thank you very much, Professor Contreras.
