00:00How many people in the car?
00:02Get out of the car!
00:04Get out of the f***ing car!
00:06Walk right here. Shut the f*** up.
00:08I don't give a f*** who you are. Get on your goddamn knees.
00:11On Sunday, June 12, 2022,
00:14a police officer was parked on the side of the road
00:17near Mile Marker 101 in Key Largo, Florida
00:20when he noticed in his rear-view mirror
00:22that a white Chrysler 300 was rapidly approaching.
00:26His shift was seemingly quiet for the most part,
00:29but unbeknownst to him,
00:31this was all about to take a dramatic turn at 3.57 a.m.
00:37In the blink of an eye,
00:38the driver quickly passes the visible and marked police vehicle.
00:42Immediately, the officer pursues the car
00:45and alerts the nearby units.
00:52It didn't take long before the high-speed chase
00:55is spotted by another officer.
00:57Despite being pursued, the Chrysler isn't slowing down
01:01and even begins to accelerate,
01:03appearing to try and evade the police.
01:16Finally, after several miles,
01:18the suspect slows down and comes to a complete halt.
01:22But this unexpected chase isn't the only surprise
01:25in store for the officers
01:26when they eventually discover the identity of the driver.
01:55The officer, visibly disappointed,
02:15is met by a quickly approaching sergeant
02:18who is given the rundown of the heated scene.
02:21He's assured that the situation is under control,
02:24but in a staggering turn of events,
02:26they quickly realize that the driver of the speeding vehicle
02:30is indeed a police officer.
02:54This is 26-year-old Donovan Rojas,
03:16an officer with the Miami-Dade Police Department.
03:19In a reversal of his usual role,
03:21he finds himself at the center of an arrest.
03:28Before going any further,
03:29the officer reads Donovan his Miranda rights.
03:51This is his agency car.
03:59This is his agency car.
04:16If they have somebody local that can come and pick it up.
04:22I got him up to 111.
04:32Additional officers begin to sort through the vehicle,
04:34only to find an assortment of police equipment,
04:37along with several other items.
04:39This includes various firearms, weapons, a spare tire,
04:43and what seems to be a few bottles
04:45of unidentified prescription pills.
04:49It has yet to be reported as to what Donovan may have been doing
04:52prior to the dangerous course of events.
04:55But just by looking at the state of the unmarked car,
04:58it's clear that something isn't quite right.
05:19This is not the highlight of my day.
05:29Donovan is driven to the police station,
05:31where he remains silent throughout the entirety of the car ride.
05:35But as they arrive, the potential consequences
05:38are undoubtedly at the forefront of his mind,
05:40prompting him to make a plea.
05:49Yeah, we are.
05:53And if I came to your county and I put you in this position?
05:57You take me home after your sergeant shows up on scene?
05:59And everybody's got cameras?
06:06I know that's what we're supposed to do,
06:08but unfortunately, I can't do that.
06:10You're going to tell me I go to Miami-Dade and I flee from the cops?
06:13I'm going to walk home?
06:15Don't give me that bullshit.
06:16We're supposed to be brothers, right?
06:18Come on, boss.
06:19Donovan is brought into the station's DUI room,
06:22where he will be asked to take a lawful breathalyzer test
06:25to determine his level of intoxication.
06:28Seeing how he is an officer of the law,
06:30he should be quite familiar with the process,
06:33although this doesn't necessarily ensure his compliance.
06:37What's your phone number?
06:39Call the PBA.
06:41Yeah, you can call whoever you need to call.
06:42I brought you your phone so you can make all the phone calls you need.
06:44Can you call the PBA?
06:45You can't call right now.
06:46I'm not asking you any incriminating questions.
06:48You know I'm not going to do that.
06:49Donovan Ross.
06:50Okay.
06:51Stand up.
06:53Sir?
06:54Turn around.
06:56If I thought you were going to do something,
06:58I wouldn't be taking off the cuffs.
06:59What are you doing with your tongue?
07:01Do you have anything in your mouth?
07:03I don't have a mouth, sir.
07:05Okay, no worries.
07:06I still got to test your mouth.
07:07Stick your tongue out for me.
07:08All right.
07:10Brother, what are you trying to do?
07:12Flee.
07:13D-U-I.
07:15Flee?
07:16Flee.
07:17Brother, really?
07:18I pulled over.
07:20After almost five miles.
07:22Really?
07:23I didn't even notice you, brother.
07:24Okay.
07:25And I'm sorry about that, brother.
07:27You know I want to talk to you,
07:29but you're telling me that you don't want to talk with me,
07:32but now you're talking with me,
07:33so I don't know what it is that you want me to do.
07:36Yeah, I pulled over.
07:37That's because I saw the lights.
07:39Okay.
07:40So, boss, listen.
07:41Either you exercise your right to remain silent
07:44or you want to talk with me.
07:45That's crazy.
07:46Okay?
07:47While waiting for the officer's next instructions,
07:49Donovan begins to demonstrate a peculiar string of behaviors.
08:00Even without previous knowledge of the incident,
08:03it appears that Donovan is not sober.
08:07Can I call my legal help?
08:11Okay, boss.
08:12You don't have too much more time on the night.
08:15I can't give any phone calls right now.
08:17Okay?
08:18As soon as we're done here,
08:19you can make whatever phone calls you need.
08:20That's why I brought your phone.
08:22You're trying to book me before I call my legal help.
08:26And my legal tells me to blow, I blow.
08:29I just want to be able to call them.
08:32You realize that nobody else in this room gets this, right?
08:35I know.
08:36That's ridiculous.
08:37But, like, I'll pull over.
08:38That's just what it is.
08:39I get it.
08:40I understand that shit.
08:41I'll pull over.
08:42But I'll flee the room, bro.
08:44You're doing me dirty with that phone.
08:46Fleeing the room.
08:47I'm doing you dirty.
08:49Boss, I told you I wasn't going to listen to any sort of that nonsense here.
08:52Okay?
08:53So never fled.
08:54Okay.
08:55Three cop cars behind you.
08:58They literally lit you up right next to you.
09:01They lit you up next to you.
09:04And you still kept going at 111.
09:06I pulled over.
09:07Next to you.
09:08No, you didn't pull over.
09:09You went for another three miles.
09:11I literally saw that next turn.
09:13Don't say anything else.
09:16Despite his arguments, the officer cannot ignore the possible disregard
09:20that Donovan had for the safety of not only himself, but for those around him.
09:25On top of this, he'd been driving at a rate of 111 miles per hour,
09:30over two times the zone's 45-speed limit.
09:35You're a fair guy, bro.
09:37You know that.
09:38You know that.
09:40I know for damn sure.
09:42If I did what you did in Miami?
09:45Nah.
09:47Really?
09:48You can sell me all this fairy tales.
09:51I get what you got to do, bro.
09:53But not to that extent, bro.
09:55You know I ain't no douchebag on a car, bro.
09:59That's very wrong.
10:01That's very wrong.
10:03The officer informs Donovan once again that he should refrain from saying anything else.
10:07But to no surprise, the advice is carelessly overlooked.
10:12My mother's a god.
10:13My father's a god.
10:16I'm sorry.
10:26It seems that Donovan has finally realized the gravity of the situation,
10:30along with the fact that he may not be able to escape the subsequent consequences.
10:35The officer explains that if he doesn't submit to a lawful breath test,
10:39this will result in the suspension of his driver's license for approximately 12 months.
10:44Still, Donovan refuses.
10:47Tell me what you want to do.
10:49Refuse.
10:50Refuse.
10:51As he's led back to the police vehicle,
10:53the officer allows Donovan to make his requested phone calls,
10:57where his uncontainable emotions are on full display.
11:02Call the PBA for me, please.
11:04Call the PBA for me, please.
11:06Tell them to call me because I don't know whether to blow or not.
11:10I'm going to get booked.
11:12I'm going to get booked.
11:15I'm going to get booked.
11:16This is different over here.
11:20I love you.
11:22Donovan is eventually booked and charged with driving under the influence,
11:26along with fleeing and eluding.
11:28Following this, he was officially relieved of his duties as a police officer without pay.
