Customs seizes bird's nests worth RM1.57mil at KLIA

The Customs Department has seized nine sacks containing 196kg of bird's nests worth RM1.57mil at KLIA Terminal 1’s Free Trade Zone Ground Team Red (GTR) warehouse.

00:00We received this case on the 31st of last month, based on the information we received from Customs.
00:13The 3rd Unit of the KLIA has inspected the 9 guni that contain bird nests in the GTR Ground Team Raid Free Commercial Zone.
00:36The bird nests were imported from Indonesia without a valid import permit.
00:44The quantity of stolen goods is 196 kg.
00:50The value of the stolen goods is RM1.576 million.
00:56The fine is RM78,800.
01:01This case is still under investigation.
01:05The operation was carried out by importing bird nests from neighboring countries without a valid permit,
01:16and by declaring the agency's name as a consignee in the aviation document, i.e. the Airway Bill.
01:25The agency also used the excuse of transshipment to a foreign country after the trade was stopped by the authorities.
01:37This case was investigated under Section 1351A of the Customs Act, 1957,
01:44i.e. importing illegal goods without a valid permit.
01:48Was the 2nd case of bird nests also transshipped or sold in Indonesia?
01:54This is for the Malaysian market.
01:57The bird nests were imported from Indonesia.
