00:00Two DAP MPs have defended Putrajaya's decision to lift the ban on a comic

00:06book by ex-DAP member Hugh Kuan Yew.

00:09Bukit Gelugor MP Ram Karpal Singh said there was no basis to UMNO-U's

00:14Chief Dr. Akmal Saleh's call for the government to seek a review

00:17of the federal court's decision.

00:19He told Akmal to read the grounds of judgment of the Court of Appeal,

00:23which found that the book's contents were not incendiary and did not

00:26stoke racial or religious tensions.

00:28Ram Karpal also said maintaining the ban would leave the

00:31government in contempt of court.

00:33Meanwhile, DAP Vice-Chairman Teresa Cook urged Akmal and UMNO Supreme

00:38Council member Puad Zarkashi to put aside their past prejudices and

00:41focus on more important matters.

00:44In 2022, Hugh successfully appealed against the ban initially imposed

00:48on his book back in 2019 for promoting communism and socialism.

00:53On August 6th, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail signed off on the

00:57revocation of the ban under Section 7 Sub 1 of the Printing Presses

01:01and Publications Act, 1984.
