00:00KMFM have done it. £7,318 raised. Delivered in the form of tins by the ton to food banks
00:10across Kent. From Folkestone to Hythe, to Ashford, to Gravesend, to Thanet, Canterbury,
00:15Maidstone and the final stop Medway. The radio team certainly had their work cut out. Their
00:21mission to help curb the cost of living crisis in the county.
00:26We went into this knowing that this was going to be probably one of the hardest things we've
00:30ever had to do. One, because the price of the food has gone up. So depending on what
00:35we were buying, it was somewhere between like 15% and 20%. There or abouts.
00:40We're on 6.77 tonnes last year and we had £5,018 on our Just Giving page. And we really
00:48thought it would be amazing to match that this year. And then last week we got to £7,318.
00:56So just absolutely amazing and it's a difficult time for everybody, but it has been so incredible
01:06to just, you know, it is a really easy visualisation of how amazing the community is.
01:15Gillingham Street Angels are just one of the charities taking in donations from the
01:18campaign and today they're preparing 200 meals for those who would go hungry tonight otherwise.
01:24So a van load of stock was a welcome sight.
01:28I mean it's amazing, the amount of people we're feeding and the level of kind of people
01:31we're feeding. To get this amount of stuff in one go is fantastic for us. We can do a
01:34lot of good with this food. The food is our main thing we do. School uniform at the moment,
01:40school holidays, puts extra pressure on us that kids need food during the school holidays.
01:45Obviously winter's coming up again, that'll be a big one for us people. We need warm clothing,
01:49blankets, bedding. It's harsh, never seems to stop sadly.
01:54Despite financial pressures tightening everyone's purse strings,
01:57KMFM were able to smash their target and had a message to share on just how much that matters.
02:04Without you there is absolutely no way we would have been able to do this. So from me,
02:09Nooms, Gary, Chelsea, Annie and everybody on KMFM, Ben and the team, thank you, thank you,
02:14thank you, thank you. Thank you so much, this wouldn't be possible without your incredible
02:18generosity. We might see you next year, the backs will be better by then. Yeah, I'm so strong now,
02:23I'm ready to go. Well there they go, Rob and Noomi on their very last trip of their tons
02:31of tins campaign, sending off that last quarter of a ton here in Medway. And the total tons of
02:38tins topped their target and tomorrow we'll find out just how many tins it took
02:43to weigh in and make a difference. Abbey Hook for KMTV in Chatham.
