00:00to take all smarm out of this, all the Chapman smarm out of the situation
00:05and say that this is a good thing. This is a good move. Scott Harris
00:09didn't call up Colt Keith last year at the end of the season, and we saw him
00:12struggle to begin 2024,
00:16looking to avoid that with Jayce Young.
00:18If you're gonna punt on third base,
00:21you have to call up Young before the end of the season. You have to give him a
00:24chance to get his feet wet, give him a chance to play a little bit of third
00:27and C, give him a chance to see Major League pitching and give him an
00:31opportunity to be a better piece in 2025.
00:35This is a good move for Scott Harris. I think it's a great move for Scott
00:37Harris, and it was one that
00:40we kind of anticipated and almost it was just a matter of when is it going
00:45to happen? Was it going to happen last week? Is it happen? Obviously, it's
00:48happening now in a week from now.
00:50I'm glad it's happening earlier rather than later so he can get as many at
00:55bats as many opportunities at third base. He's a trained second baseman that
00:58they've moved to third has had some issues. That's where his weak spot is.
01:02Can we see him make the transition from batter at the triple-a level third
01:08baseman at the triple-a level and continue to improve in both areas, but
01:12especially in the field at the Major League level.
01:15Yeah, I mean the idea was if you weren't going to sign a third baseman in the
01:18offseason, the Jayce Young had to be close to the Major League level that you
01:21would see him at some point this year and we will we'll see him tonight.
01:25And Colt Keith last year actually hit better than him and didn't get the call
01:28up. So I wonder if something philosophically is changing.
01:33But I'm here for it because Colt Keith might not have had that rough May if he
01:37had 100 at bats to close last season at the Major League level and the hope
01:41here and this is all hope these are prospects at the end of the day. The
01:44hope here is you give Jayce Young a chance to be a better player in 2025
01:47because he's on the team starting right now and he has a lot of work still to
01:50do at third base 16 errors in 65 games.
01:53I don't know if third base is going to be his permanent home, but I want to see
01:56him field the ball at the Major League level because it means he gets to see
02:00Major League pitching at the same time.
02:01Well, that's that's it is you got to be able to see Major League pitching and
02:05it's early enough to where if he does come up and we've heard this from AJ.
02:08We've seen it with a number of players.
02:10We've seen it play out with Colt Keith where yes, you can come up.
02:14Maybe you struggle.
02:15Maybe you find your way and then pitchers adjust and you have to be able
02:18to adjust to the new pitching.
02:19I think there is enough time for that process, even though it's abbreviated
02:24this year to happen so that Jayce Young can get into the offseason know a
02:30little bit more at the Major League level.
02:33Where are his strengths?
02:35How can I make those better?
02:36Where are his weaknesses?
02:37How can I address those so that when he hits spring training when he hits
02:41opening day next year, he's a better player in a better place than he is
02:46now if he is incredible and I'm not predicting that but if he was just
02:52going deep all the time, you'd feel really good about third base going into
02:56next season if he struggles mightily.
02:59It opens up the question of do you need to at least have another option there
03:02on the 2025 roster and they can both play.
03:05You'll learn things is the point.
03:06That's why you call him up right now is you'll learn some things about him.
03:11What's the corresponding move?
03:12It's not just him Sweeney comes up as well.
03:14It's shortstop couple guys who can play on the left side of the infield figure
03:17out if either of them are going to be key pieces on next year's roster who
03:21gets sent down.
03:22That's a terrific question because you're in a position now where some of
03:30the guys you're going to just have to simply DFA versus sending down to the
03:34minor leagues.
03:34Now, I don't know how it works for Akil Badu.
03:40He seems to be odd man out.
03:42I don't know that he is a part of the core moving forward.
03:47No, but he's an outfielder and you're bringing two infielders.
03:49So someone from the infields got to go.
03:53Give me your options.
03:54Okay.
03:54I mean one would be I hate to say it fire up chips Zach McKinstry.
03:58Okay, it seems the most logical but but the game left the bat on the field
04:02DFA.
04:03Yeah, Gio Rochelle would be another name if you're just like, hey, you know
04:06what?
04:06We've got someone to play third base.
04:07Now in Jason, you're on a one-year deal again.
04:11It's a DFA.
04:11Yes, that would be a decision.
04:14Blime address would not be a DFA and you could say hey Gio is going to play
04:17more first.
04:18A Banya's will play more first.
04:19We've got Jace to play third the rest of the season.
04:21I think that's your answer that do you think it's Bly?
04:23I think so.
