00:00People are also loving Mike Tirico.
00:02Oh, Mike's great.
00:04He is the best.
00:05I mean, when you talk to,
00:07because you could talk anything, right?
00:08And obviously we're talking Lions with him.
00:11And he's got the connection,
00:12even though he's not from the area,
00:15he lives in the area,
00:16his wife is a native to Michigan,
00:19and he does have that great perspective
00:23of talking to other fan bases
00:25and being exposed to other fan bases.
00:28That's why I love the question of,
00:30what is the perception of the Detroit Lions
00:34outside of Detroit?
00:35You love your question.
00:36Well, I love his answer.
00:39His answer was very, very good.
00:40He said a couple things in there that,
00:42like this year so far has been about
00:45the return importance of the run game.
00:47And it's something where he said it,
00:48I'm like, well, yeah, but he's right,
00:49but no one's really said it.
00:51It's Saquon Barkley and the difference he's made
00:53for the Eagles.
00:54It's Derrick Henry and the difference he's made
00:55for Baltimore.
00:56It's clearly what Detroit is built on.
00:58When San Francisco is humming,
01:00they run the ball.
01:00Buffalo has been better committed
01:02to running the football this season.
01:04It's a huge theme this year,
01:06and it's so obvious,
01:07but no one's really just said it on our show,
01:09and Mike's great.
01:12Well, and how about, okay,
01:13talk about the run game and how important it is.
01:16You got two guys right now,
01:17Jameer Gibbs has 656 yards,
01:20Montgomery has 488 yards.
01:22Both guys are on pace to be thousand yard backs.
01:26And so when you,
01:28you talk about Derrick Henry
01:31and the opportunity that he may have
01:34to be a 2,000 yard back.
01:37The last time that he was on pace for this,
01:39what happened in, I think it was week 14,
01:42had a, I believe it was a foot injury.
01:44I think you're right.
01:45He wore down a little bit.
01:45Yeah, came up short.
01:47And now you've got two guys
01:48that are gonna do the job of one Derrick Henry,
01:51and I understand the difference there,
01:54but chances are both guys
01:57are gonna be healthier than one Derrick Henry.
02:00The wear and tear, now he's amazing.
02:02Yeah.
02:04But the one-two punch,
02:05because they're both different styles too.
02:06You see it even within a game.
02:08Like often it's Montgomery early,
02:10setting the tone,
02:11showing that the Lions are gonna win the battle up front,
02:13and then as soon as Montgomery leaves the game,
02:16Gibbs is fresh.
02:17Yeah, and boom, he goes.
02:18In the last game, I think it was the third quarter,
02:20he came out and it was like a bolt of lightning.
02:22Yeah.
02:24And the Lions on their heels
02:24because they've been getting worn down by David Montgomery,
02:26and it works the other way.
02:27Gibbs has had some good first halves,
02:29and then the other team's huffing and puffing,
02:30trying to keep up,
02:31and they can't catch their breath
02:32because a sledgehammer hits them over the head
02:34with David Montgomery.
02:35Yeah, and the irony is,
02:36we talk about the numbers for both of these guys,
02:38it's 103 carries for Gibbs,
02:41and he's got, what, almost 200 yards more than Montgomery,
02:45who's had seven more carries.
02:47But it is, it's both backs being able to be dominant
02:52in their own respect.
