00:00This is part of the story of Carlos Yulo and other athletes who won two gold medals in the Paris Olympics 2024.
00:12But this won't be possible without the support of other people.
00:16They are the ones who will be considered heroes when it comes to supporting our athletes.
00:20But did you know that some of our countrymen went to help in the Olympics 2024?
00:26One of them is the 23-year-old Olympics volunteer, Jenica Romabaon.
00:32We will interview her live via Zoom.
00:35Good evening to all of you. Jenica?
00:38Good evening to all of you in the Philippines.
00:42Jenica, what is the assignment of a volunteer in the Olympics and how do you choose it?
00:48My assignment in the Olympics was to be a part of the National Olympic Committee Assistant.
00:56Before the opening ceremony, we helped in the village in designing different delegations.
01:06For example, Portugal, Denmark, and others.
01:09And officially, I went to the Philippines with the Filipino volunteers.
01:16We helped in assisting the athletes, coaches, and other people in the village and outside the village.
01:26We waited for two years for the selection because the PSC called for volunteers for the upcoming Paris Olympics 2022.
01:38We applied for more than 100, 200 plus people.
01:45We were chosen to be volunteers.
01:50Jenica, just a follow-up question.
01:52Did you choose to be a volunteer in the Philippines or in Paris?
01:55Where did you go home?
01:57I was chosen to be a volunteer in the Philippines.
02:00In 2022, I was still a student in UP Delaman.
02:06While waiting, I graduated and went to Paris.
02:14How was your experience as a volunteer in Paris?
02:17You were with a lot of athletes.
02:19What was your overall experience?
02:23It was surreal for us because we've been dreaming of this for a long time.
02:28We've been dreaming of this for a long time.
02:30I've been with a lot of volunteers.
02:32They are Eda, Mina, and Marina.
02:35They were able to go to the Olympics not only as athletes but also as volunteers.
02:40And to witness the story that the Philippines won two gold medals,
02:44I really saw it.
02:47I was so emotional.
02:50You know the national anthem that goes,
02:53and then all the people are standing.
02:55It's so nice to feel that you can't explain it.
02:59And it was so fun.
03:01It was a rare opportunity that I got to be close to a lot of athletes,
03:06to a lot of coaches from the Philippines and other delegations.
03:12Janica, in the next Olympics,
03:14will you and your teammates be volunteering again?
03:18Yes, it was a fun experience.
03:22We really want to volunteer in LA in 2028.
03:26And if we can open up this opportunity again,
03:30because you might be asking,
03:33we are all free here.
03:35Our pay tickets, our lodging from the France volunteer,
03:39and the support of the French Embassy in the Philippines.
03:43So I hope this opportunity will open up again for the youth
03:48and for those who are willing to volunteer for the Olympics.
03:53Thank you so much, Janica!
03:55And to all the other volunteers in the Paris Olympics,
