Transcript
00:00Meanwhile, fellow countrymen, there is still an accident in Sariaya, Quezon. We will talk on the phone with the chief of Sariaya PNP, the police, Lieutenant Colonel Carlos Caceres.
00:13Good morning to you, sir.
00:16Sir, good morning. Good morning and good night to all the people who are watching.
00:21First of all, we are grateful to the families and relatives of those who became victims of this accident.
00:28But Colonel, can you tell us about your initial investigations?
00:34Okay, sir. First of all, we are grateful to the families and relatives of those who became victims of this accident.
00:41Initially, we had a head-on collision between a ring van and a Nissan van here in Barangay Santo Cristo, Sariaya, Quezon, along our Maharlika Highway.
00:57Initially, at 5.30 a.m., the van had 14 occupants. Out of these 14, eight were confirmed dead.
01:18The last confirmed death from the hospital was at 11.50 a.m. yesterday.
01:25The mother of the two-year-old child who died on the spot was also dead.
01:33Currently, all the injured are in stable condition.
01:42But again, out of 14, eight were confirmed dead, six were injured, plus the driver of the truck.
01:51These are the different hospitals in Quezon Province, sir.
01:56Okay, Colonel. There are still six people in the hospital who are currently being treated. How are they doing, sir?
02:03So far, sir, those six are stable as per the information from the hospitals that are coordinating our investigation.
02:12As of now, we are still monitoring them. Both parties haven't talked yet.
02:18So it will depend on how many of them will be finalized, especially on the reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicides.
02:29Because if eight counts were approved, maybe this will be the last one.
02:33Okay. Well, Colonel, those eight who became victims, those eight who were injured, are their families there with them?
02:42As of now, sir, we haven't talked to them since midnight.
02:47They are still in the funeral home and are still waiting for their relatives to arrive this morning.
02:52They are still discussing how they will go back to the province, to Manila.
02:57Okay. Let's go back to what happened, Colonel.
03:00Since the private van hit him, does the truck driver also have a responsibility?
03:08Sir, according to our law, normally, if there is a situation like this, the driver who is still alive will be the one to file the case.
03:18And it's up to the fiscal office on how they will proceed with the case that we will be handling.
03:27Okay. In the area where the accident happened, was the accident prone or not?
03:33Actually, sir, this is the first time that this has happened.
03:40Normally, these are the cases where there is a collision.
03:43And that's why what happened in that area is that the driver is missing.
03:49He was hit by a vehicle and the vehicle is broken.
03:53But it's not like that. It's not a prone area.
03:56But it's one of the good areas here in Quezon.
03:59Alright. Thank you very much for all the information that you shared with us this morning.
04:03Sir, can we give a warning?
04:06Go ahead, sir.
04:08Sir, again, I always say that when there is a trip that is far away, it's not only the vehicle that should be in condition.
04:16In our global case, we should prepare ourselves for such situations.
04:21When the trip is far away, we should also prepare ourselves.
04:25That's all, sir.
04:26Alright. Thank you very much for all the information.
04:29Police Colonel Carlos Caceres, Chief of Police of Saria PNP.
