00:00A nasi kandar chain has agreed to pay an Astro subsidiary over RM200,000 for the unauthorised
00:09use of Astro's pay-TV broadcasts. Astro said Takwa Sundaran Berhad extended the use
00:14of its subscriptions at two restaurants to its other eight restaurants without permission.
00:19The settlement required Takwa to pay Myasat Broadcast System Sundaran Berhad more than
00:23RM221,000. Takwa also agreed to respect Astro's copyright and intellectual property right
00:30The Takwa settlement is just one of several cases that Astro is actively pursuing to protect
00:35its intellectual property rights. In February, a 22-year-old man was fined RM10,000 in Ipoh
00:41after pleading guilty to selling an Android box pre-loaded with unauthorised Astro content.
00:47Astro Chief of Sales and Marketing Tai Kam Leong said taking such illegal actions helped
00:52ensure that creators and artists are paid fairly for their work.
