London Zoo carries out annual weigh-in of animals  London Zoo carries out its annual weigh-in of animals including Humboldt penguins, Asiatic lions, and Bactrian camels, with the data collected from over 10,000 animals and almost 400 species shared on a database with zookeepers across the globe in efforts to help the preservation of endangered species. The zoo recently drew headlines after a Banksy artwork was painted on the entrance, with the original removed for safeguarding and a replica put up. "We want to protect it properly and then we're going to get it on show again hopefully," says head of zoological operations Angela Ryan. 01:16Well, we weigh our animals every year but we also get some weights weekly or

01:45daily depending on the species but this particular one we do at the same time

01:49every year so we can compare from the year before and also by sharing all this

01:53information with other zoos we can check that all animals are kind of on the

01:57right track they're all healthy they're all looking good we look at body

01:59condition as well and this information is also shared with our conservationists

02:04in the field so they there's plenty of challenges when we when we weigh our

02:08animals especially with some of the slightly more cheeky animals like our

02:11monkeys when we're weighing our monkeys they all want to get on the scale at the

02:14same time and the keepers have to identify which animal it is then get an

02:18individual weight the penguins can be quite tricky sometimes too just trying

02:22to nip at your fingers and get those fish out your hand before you get a

02:24steady weight on the scales. Last week Banksy drew a lovely artwork on our

02:29opening shutters which has been a great little celebration for the zoo it's

02:33really given a bit of kind of energy and excitement that he's done that to

02:37celebrate really wildlife and the great things that wildlife can do for people

02:41being around them for their health and so a really nice thing to be done here

02:45for our zoo. Unfortunately we've had to remove the Banksy artwork and although

02:51we love it and we're celebrating it and we put a copy up there we're really

02:54worried about it getting graffiti on it and we're spending a lot of time

02:57protecting it ever so we want to take it away we want to protect it properly and

03:01then we're going to get it on show again.
