00:00Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia and India have agreed to elevate their relationship
00:06from an enhanced strategic partnership to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
00:11Anwar, who is on a three-day official visit to India beginning August 19,
00:16said the mutual decision to enhance the relationship with comprehensive strategic partnership
00:22marked a significant step forward.
00:24The prime minister acknowledged the long-standing ties between Malaysia and India
00:29and stressed the importance of further strengthening these relations across multiple areas among others,
00:35including digital investments, trade, construction, agriculture, education, research and military collaboration.
00:43And as I've said to him personally and to the colleagues, he's franchise sincere,
00:51not only when I'm prime minister, but when I was just nobody, he was very kind, as a true friend.
00:59And that, of course, is most meaningful to me and my delegation and to the country.
01:06And that makes all our deliberations and discussions rather easy.
01:12We have agreed to enhance further and make it a comprehensive strategic partnership.
01:19Yes, Malaysia and India, from the days of Jawaharlal Nehru and to Governor Rahman,
01:26have established good relations.
01:28But we realise, under our generation, that this must be further strengthened in a multitude of areas.
01:37Anwar said this at a joint press conference with his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, at Hyderabad House on Tuesday.
01:44Meanwhile, Anwar expressed his gratitude to Modi and the Indian government for their warm hospitality
01:50and affirmed that Malaysia considers India a great and true friend.
01:54So, firstly, I thank you, Prime Minister, and the Indian government for the splendid hospitality
02:06accorded to us and the delegation, and more so to consider Malaysia a great and true friend.
02:15And I must give you this assurance that it is reciprocal
02:20and we will reinvigorate this sort of working relations in all fields.
02:25We discussed, frankly, in the bilateral meetings and also in the private conversations,
02:32without or no holds barred, we discussed as true brothers on all issues, sensitive or unlikewise,
02:42because this is the true meaning of friendship.
02:46I personally believe, and I have said this to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji,
02:52that there are so many areas that we need to explore further.
02:58He said his discussions with Modi, both in bilateral meetings and private conversations, were open and frank.
03:05Anwar has also assured that Malaysia would remain committed
03:09to reinvigorating these working relations in all fields.
03:13We have initiated a lot of new programmes and we would hope that Indian companies,
03:20with Malaysian companies, collaborate further in all fields,
03:25including the new challenging areas like energy transition, digitalisation and also food security.
03:34Earlier, Malaysia and India also solidified their bilateral relations
03:39with the exchange of eight Memorandums of Understanding,
03:42including worker recruitment, traditional medicine, digital technologies,
03:47culture, tourism and public administration.
03:51These agreements are expected to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two nations,
03:57promoting cooperation across various fields
04:00and creating new opportunities for mutual growth and development.
