00:00The second round of additional tolls on the South Luzon Expressway or SLEX is now effective.
00:05Those who will pass from Alabang to Calamba, Laguna, have an additional 10 to 30 pesos depending on the type of vehicle.
00:13And for those who will travel from Calamba to Santo Tomas, Batangas, the additional toll is 2 to 8 pesos.
00:21Starting on August 31, motorists will also pay for those who will pass through the toll gate
00:26if there is no valid or if the load is insufficient on the RFID device.
00:33The study of the possible cause of diplomatic protests or complaints in the United Nations
00:38is followed by the flood in Escoda Shoal where the ships of the PCG collided.
00:43Some Chinese sea vehicles surrounding the BRP Teresa Magbanwa in Escoda Shoal were also seen.
00:51Witness Chino Gaston.
00:56From Papawid, the Chinese sea vehicles surrounding the Philippine ship BRP Teresa Magbanwa in Escoda Shoal were seen.
01:04As part of the Philippine Coast Guard, 5 rubber boats and 3 speed boats were circling around it.
01:10Not far away, the CGV 5202 and 4303 of the China Coast Guard were anchored,
01:16aside from the Chinese militia vessels.
01:18They are so afraid with their own narrative that we are reinforcing,
01:22we are going to reinforce our presence in Escoda Shoal and deploy additional vessels here to accompany Teresa Magbanwa.
01:30The ship's supply is limited, so it needs to supply water and food.
01:35But if the ships of China are already surrounded, it will be difficult to resupply.
01:41Since May, the BRP Teresa Magbanwa in Escoda Shoal has been repeatedly complained and asked to leave China.
01:48As far as our enforcement is concerned, all of this is in accordance with UNCLOS and of course the 2016 Arbitral Award.
01:56But isn't it difficult for us to supply if they are surrounded?
02:00Well, that may be a challenge, but that is something that we are strategically considering.
02:06The ships of China in Escoda Shoal were surrounded a few hours after the China Coast Guard
02:13bombed the BRP Magacay and Cape Engaño.
02:15It left a deep scar on our ships.
02:18Despite these incidents, Escoda Shoal is not considered a new flashpoint according to the Philippine Navy.
02:25The National Maritime Council has already ordered the PCG to find evidence for the possible
02:31violation of another diplomatic protest.
02:34Several groups are also being investigated, such as the violation of the complaint to the United Nations.
02:39In this case, the Solicitor General has also been made a member of the National Maritime Council.
02:45The Council also wants to complain about the Chinese Coast Guard's violation of the UNCLOS
02:50at the 1972 Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea.
02:56It is actually a code of conduct among seafarers.
03:00The principle behind it is to ensure safety among vessels at the high seas, especially,
03:09so that they will not have a collision.
03:11But what happened is, they went through the extreme of putting a vessel at risk.
03:24So, it's ridiculous on their part.
03:27But the Philippines has no plan to counter China's aggressive actions.
03:31If you're referring to more kinetic actions, that would not be to the best interest of our country
03:37and of China and even in the region.
03:40So, we're looking at this approach.
03:42We can never go wrong by using this diplomatic and peaceful approach.
03:48The violation of the Chinese Coast Guard against the Philippine ships happened just a month
03:52after the provisional arrangement for the reduction of raw emissions in the island.
03:58Therefore, it is being studied to expand it to other parts of the country's maritime domain.
04:03For GMA Integrated News, I am Chinu Gaston, your witness.
04:08In the statement of the spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines,
04:12they said that the two Philippine Coast Guard ships entered the unchallenged escuadron
04:18called the Shen Bin Jiao of China.
04:21And despite the Chinese Coast Guard's actions,
04:24the PCG vessels were attacked by the Chinese Coast Guard vessels.
04:30The netizens are asking their animal rights groups to add a new lion cub to the Manila Zoo.
04:36But another group has a different opinion on this.
04:39Our witness, Niko Wahe.
04:44The new lion cub, Ayla, was introduced to the social media of the Manila Zoo and Manila Mayor, Hani Lacuna.
04:52She is a lion cub or baby lion.
04:54Baby Ayla was added to the collection of animals in the zoo.
04:58But Ayla has not yet been seen by the public
05:01because she was raised and strengthened.
05:04But in the comments on their social media posts,
05:06there are those who are not happy.
05:08There are those who are worried that Ayla may not be taken care of properly.
05:12There are also those who are begging to just let her go to the wild.
05:15It may also be like Mali, who died in 2023 at the age of 49.
05:20Usually, Asian elephants reach 80 years old like Mali
05:25when they are under captivity and 60 years old when they are in the wild.
05:29The Philippine Animal Welfare Society, or POS,
05:32In our opinion, there is no longer any argument for the promotion of zoos
05:37in that it's educational or that it supports conservation efforts.
05:41Because in truth, they do not exhibit the behaviors that they should normally exhibit
05:47in the correct environment where they should really live.
05:51People are also dismayed for the ethical treatment of animals or pets.
05:55This is not good for her, it's just good for the zoo.
06:00Let's give this baby lion to an expert who can rehabilitate and assess
06:08if it can still return to its natural habitat.
06:13If not, it should be placed in a sanctuary, not in a zoo.
06:19But according to the group Wildlife Matters,
06:21it is still dependent on the care of the zoo that a pet will be placed.
06:25A good zoo would play an important role in conservation,
06:28especially for endangered species.
06:29Because they can create breeding programs or conduct research and educate the public.
06:34Of course, they would have to prioritize animal welfare
06:38by making sure that they have the proper environment that mimics their natural habitat.
06:42It is also different if the animal placed in the zoo is from the wild or is already domesticated.
06:48If it was already domesticated, and generations and generations of domesticated lions,
06:56it came from breeders who have been in captivity for a long time,
07:00then technically, it's not a wild animal anymore.
07:04Bringing it back to the wild could possibly do it more harm than good.
07:09We tried to get a statement from the local government of Manila,
07:12but they said they can't issue a statement for now.
07:15We intended to go to the Manila Zoo, but no one came to us.
07:19They said they need a go signal from the city hall.
07:22Whether the animals are domesticated or in the wild,
07:25they all want to be taken care of and live properly.
07:30For GMA Integrated News, I'm Nico Aje, your witness.
07:35A big welcome to two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo on GMA Network earlier.
07:42And in my opinion, in the category of the Golden Hero of Gymnastics,
07:46Yulo thanks those who helped him,
07:49including his friend, the Filipino-British gymnast, Jake Jarman.
07:55Our witness.
08:01That's for a two-time Olympic gold medalist.
08:04A grand welcome to Carlos Yulo on GMA Compound.
08:08Yulo is with the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines President, Cynthia Carion.
08:13They were joined by GMA executives,
08:15President and Chief Executive Officer Gilberto R. Duavit Jr.,
08:20Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Felipe Estiano,
08:24Senior Vice President Attorney Annette Gozon Valdez,
08:27and Senior Vice President and Head of GMA Integrated News, Regional TV, and Synergy,
08:32Oliver Victor B. Amoroso.
08:34Outstanding, can I say.
08:36Very proud and very grateful for the opportunity to personally meet him and congratulate him
08:43and thank him.
08:44To thank him for the inspiration and the strength he brings us all.
08:49The hope he brings to everybody.
08:51The whole company is so proud of what Yulo has achieved.
08:56So, GMA, one of our core values is excellence and he excelled that.
09:04So, we're so proud.
09:14In the Olympics, I just want to win a medal.
09:18And the medal itself, I've been dreaming of it since I was 12 years old.
09:25I'm so grateful for this journey.
09:28Carlos told us how he felt about his floor exercise routine.
09:32Before I started on the floor, I saw that I was 14.9 plus the score of my competitor.
09:38I was like, I'll just focus on myself.
09:42And then, I'll show them what I practiced, what I did.
09:47So, I'm so happy.
09:49But I didn't know that I was going to gold.
09:53It seems like it's even harder for Carlos to vault, where he also won a gold medal.
09:58One of the people who helped him here is a fellow gymnast and Filipino-British, Jake Jarman
10:04of Team Great Britain, who he considers a close friend.
10:08In my second vault, it was really hard for me.
10:12It wasn't consistent.
10:14So, I asked Jake to teach me when I was in training camp.
10:19And yeah, his technique really helped me.
10:24I told him to teach me more.
10:27Jake agreed.
10:28Yay!
10:30Carlos has a lot of people with him in his career.
10:33He also gave a message to his Japanese coach, Munehiro Kugimiya,
10:38as well as to the people who helped him get used to training in Japan.
10:42Owen, thank you very much.
10:44I'm really grateful.
10:50What does that mean?
10:52Thank you so much for your support.
10:54And from the heart, I want to thank you.
10:58Carlos is very happy about his return to the country.
11:01He has bonded with other athletes from Team Philippines.
11:05I'm really excited to see AJ.
11:07I know he had a hard time during his journey.
11:12I'm really proud of what he did.
11:13I really respect our athletes.
11:18And they inspire me.
11:22Carlos didn't expect the homecoming parade to be so grand.
11:26Just now, they were preparing for the 2028 Olympics.
11:31If we can, we can do it.
11:33I want him not to go alone, but to have a team of four other gymnasts.
11:37So, I'm trying to look now for a foreign coach.
11:40When the golden hero of gymnastics returns to the country,
11:45many are hopeful that this will be the example of the golden era
11:49not only of Philippine gymnastics, but also of Philippine sports.
11:55The answer of the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines President, Cynthia Carrion,
11:59was the lack of invitation from other Filipino gymnasts
12:03for the Heroes Parade and the Malacanang program.
12:06Alia Finnegan, Emma Malabuyo, and Levi Rui-Vivar said
12:10that they were not told about the activities.
12:14But Carrion said that she didn't know that the Heroes Parade was being prepared.
12:21I heard something that Carlos will have in the medalist.
12:26I thought it's only Carlos in the medalist.
12:28I didn't think all the Olympians would be invited.
12:32If I had known about it, do you think I would not invite them?
12:35Of course, I will. I'm proud of them.
12:39But Carrion doesn't want to make the issue bigger.
12:42She prefers to focus on the growing interest in gymnastics.
12:48Kapuso, let's be sexy together.
