00:00Well, I've received several complaints about long queues and customer wait times at Wallsend
00:07Post Office.
00:09Residents say they're waiting over half an hour to be served and some have even been
00:12turned away because Australia Post staff do not have time or capacity to respond to increased
00:18customer needs.
00:20One resident told me that she often leaves work early if she wants to be served at Wallsend
00:23Post Office before 5pm.
00:26Another noted that it's very common for there to be only three employees working during
00:30peak times and they seem to be overwhelmed by the amount of foot traffic coming into
00:34the store.
00:36Wallsend Post Office serves a large region, including the rapidly growing suburbs of Maryland,
00:41Fletcher and Minmai.
00:43Postal services are essential services, providing access to vital services, connecting people
00:49and communities right across the country and the globe.
00:53This lack of resourcing is causing considerable stress to people of all ages in my community
00:59and I really appreciate the time and effort taken by those who have contacted my office
01:03to share their concerns and personal experiences with me.
01:08I stand with the people of Wallsend and their calls for a properly resourced post office
01:14that meets customer and community needs, needs not just now but into the future.
01:20I call on Australia Post to invest in their workforce and postal services in Wallsend.
01:27They deserve nothing less.
