00:03Three men have been sentenced after a Derbyshire grandfather was killed in a case of mistaken

00:07identity. David Thompson died after he was attacked by Brandon Brooks after a night out

00:12in Cresswell on the evening of January 26th. Earlier on the same night, Brooks and his friend

00:18Ben Hart had had an altercation with another group, and in an effort to find one of the men involved,

00:23the pair picked up another friend, Michael McCann, and drove around the town in the earliest hours

00:27in the morning in an effort to locate him. David, who happened to be wearing similar clothes to the

00:32man the trio were looking for, was spotted by the group in Elmton Road, where Brooks jumped out of

00:37the van driven by Hart and punched him once in the head. David collapsed to the floor, but despite

00:43being rushed to the hospital, he died on the 15th February after spending 19 days in a coma.

00:48The three were arrested and initially charged with murder, but later pleaded guilty to the

00:53following offences. Brooks, 24, of Fairfield Close, Netherlangwith, pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

00:59Hart, aged 20, of Skinner Street, Cresswell, pleaded guilty to assisting an offender,

01:04and McCann, 38, of Markham Road in Chesterfield, pleaded guilty to a section 4 public order offence.

01:10The trio were sentenced yesterday at Derby Crown Court, where Brooks was jailed for five years.

01:15Hart was sentenced to nine months imprisonment, and McCann was jailed for 12 weeks.

01:20An 85-year-old Derbyshire resident has been granted the freedom of his village

01:23after dedicating over 20 years to litter picking in the community.

01:27Former postman Don Watson was given the ceremonial title of Honorary Freeman by

01:32Pillsbury Parish Council, becoming the first resident of the village to be granted such an honour.

01:37In a speech given at the presentation ceremony, Parish Councillor Michael Shaw gave thanks to Don

01:42saying, ''Pillsbury Parish Council has not previously granted this award,

01:46and we feel the honour is the best way to thank Don for all his years,

01:52over 20, in helping to keep the streets and verges of our village clean and tidy.

01:56In an immeasurable way, he has helped the Parish Council and its own efforts to keep the parish

02:01clean and tidy. So much so, in fact, that we have had representations from all over Pillsbury and

02:06Lower Pillsbury wanting to thank him for all his work on behalf of the entire community.''
