00:00This is today's Derbyshire Times video bulletin.
00:03Planning permission for a new Lidl store has been granted
00:06following the signing of a legal agreement between the developer,
00:09the site owner, the District Planning Authority and the County Council.
00:13The store is proposed for the former Trent Titanium Metalworks site at Reeks Lane in Dronefield
00:18and will bring around 35 new jobs to the town.
00:21North East Derbyshire District Council has passed developer Mo Baines' application
00:25to demolish existing buildings and build a food store with 100 parking spaces.
00:30A Reserve Matters application relating to the appearance and landscaping of the site
00:34must be approved before work can begin.
00:37The proposed new store would be 100 metres away from an existing Sainsbury's outlet
00:41and Aldi operates a store on nearby Sheffield Road.
00:45Dronefield Town Council reiterated its objection to the Lidl store plan last year,
00:50having originally opposed the application on the grounds that it would significantly increase traffic on Reeks Lane.
00:55However, Dronefield Civic Society has supported the application, saying
01:11Bird Welfare Charity, the RSB, has teamed up with Tenuel Cooper-Wallace from Chesterfield,
01:16otherwise known as Seagull Boy, naming him as its honorary goal champion.
01:21Together they want to raise awareness of the problems that goals are facing and what we can do to help them.
01:26Seagull Boy became an internet sensation earlier this year after winning the European Goal Screeching Championship
01:32and a video of his incredibly accurate goal impressions went viral.
01:36He said
01:46And I hope I can inspire others to love goals as much as I do.
02:16So goals have a bad rep, but actually they're incredibly intelligent and resourceful birds.
02:22Cooper is 10 years old and he's also known as Seagull Boy.
02:26Now you may have seen him on social media earlier this year where he came to national attention
02:30having won the European Goal Screeching Competition with his absolutely amazing impersonation of a gull.
02:38I'm really excited to be the RSPB's goal champion and I hope I can inspire others to love goals as much as I do.
02:47Goals are amazing birds, but they need our help. They are in decline so we must learn how to live alongside them.
02:53One of the things that scientists have recently discovered is if you're looking at a goal straight in the eye
02:59it's much less likely to have a go at your chips.
03:03But also it's a good idea to have your back against a wall or a building
03:08just so that gulls can't sneak up behind you and try and take your food.
03:13And when you're disposing of your wrappers or you haven't managed to finish your massive fish and chips
03:18make sure that you put the rubbish that you have in a bin and make sure that that bin is properly closed.
03:24What we're trying to do is break that association so they don't annoy people, we're not annoyed by gulls
03:30and we treat gulls with the respect that they deserve, especially as many species are in real trouble.
