A chronic asthma and heart patient was sentenced to two years' jail by the Magistrate's Court in Ayer Keroh, Melaka, after the 34-year-old pleaded guilty to six counts of stealing donation boxes at mosques and a madrasah as well as a mobile phone.

00:00A 34-year-old chronic asthma and heart patient was sentenced to two years in jail by the
00:07magistrate's court in Ayarkero after pleading guilty to six counts of theft, including stealing
00:13donation boxes from mosques and a madrasa, as well as a mobile phone.
00:19Magistrate Karunisak Hasni on Friday also ordered Mohammad Rizwan Zamri to receive one
00:24stroke of the rotan as part of his sentence.
00:28Rizwan was also fined 3,500 ringgit by the court in default six-months' jail.
00:33According to the Statement of Facts, Rizwan stole a total of 1,400 ringgit from donation
00:39boxes at several mosques and one madrasa in the Milakaterna district between July 25 and
00:46August 1.
00:47The charges were framed under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum
00:53jail term of 10 years and a possible fine upon conviction.
00:57Rizwan also faced charges under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and was
01:04sentenced to an additional three months in jail for stealing a mobile phone from a 40-year-old
01:09woman at Sri Syantan apartment in the same district at 2 a.m. on July 29.
01:16This offence also fell under Section 380 of the Penal Code.
01:20The court ordered that the sentences run concurrently from July 31, the date of Rizwan's arrest.
