00:00Russian security services have shot dead four of the prison inmates who held prison staff hostage
00:05on Friday at the detention facility near Moscow. The security operatives shot dead the four inmates
00:11who had taken the prison hostage at a penal colony and fatally stabbed four of the prison facility
00:16staff and posted online videos describing themselves as Islamic State militants, according
00:21to Russia official's statement. According to local media, attackers were allegedly demanding
00:27two million dollars, an helicopter and an air corridor in exchange for hostages at a Russian
00:33prison. Earlier reports stated that at least two prison employees were killed. Prison head
00:39Andrey Divyatov was later released by the attackers and not killed. The prison is located in the
00:44colony of southern Volgograd region and it is the second of such incidents since June, officials
00:50said. It was gathered that at least one member of the prison staff was killed in the incident
00:55on Friday, according to state media. During a session of a disciplinary commission, convicts
01:01took staff of the penal institution as hostages, Russia's federal penitentiary service said in a
01:07statement. Measures are currently being taken to free the hostages. There are casualties,
01:13the statement added. Russia's investigative committee said several prisoners were involved.
01:19The IK-19 prison colony is located in the town of Surovikino, about 850 kilometers
01:26530 miles south of the capital, Moscow, according to Al Jazeera. Some of the videos published on
01:33social media appeared to show about four prison guards taking hostage, some lying in pools of
01:38blood. News channel MASH posted a video that showed at least two attackers, with one of them
01:44shouted that they were Mujahideen of the ISIL-ISIS group and had seized control of the prison.
01:50The video suggested the death toll was higher. Russian President Vladimir Putin said in televised
01:56remarks that he had been briefed by the head of the prison service. The prison is designated as a
02:02hash regime penal colony with the capacity to hold up to 1,241 male prisoners, according to observers.
02:11News sites with security connections published the names of up to four alleged attackers,
02:15identifying them as citizens of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. There was no official confirmation.
02:22It would be recalled that the Islamic State in Khorasan province, an ISIL affiliate,
02:27claimed responsibility for an attack on a consulate hall in Moscow that killed 145 last
02:33March, the deadliest such strike in Russia for two decades, according to independent observers.
02:39Al Jazeera reported that the group remains one of the most active affiliates of ISIL and takes
02:44its title from an ancient caliphate in the region that once encompassed areas of Afghanistan, Iran,
02:49Pakistan and Turkmenistan. It emerged from eastern Afghanistan in late 2014 and was made
02:55up of breakaway fighters of the Pakistan Taliban and local fighters who pledged allegiance to the
03:00late ISIL leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Earlier in the month of June this year,
03:05a bloody ISIL-linked prison uprising took place in the southern region of Rostov,
03:09where special forces shot dead six inmates who had taken hostages. Later that month,
03:15at least 20 people were killed in shooting attacks in two cities in Dagestan, a mainly
03:20Muslim region of southern Russia. Media reports indicated that ISIL has repeatedly pledged to
03:26target Russia over its support of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who has waged a military campaign
03:31to push the group in the Middle East.
