00:00Mark chapter 5 verse 18 and 19. Mark chapter 5 verse 18 and 19. As Jesus was
00:26getting into the boat the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with
00:34him. Jesus didn't let him but said go home to your own people and tell them
00:43how much the Lord has done for you and how he has had mercy on you. As Jesus was
00:52getting into the boat there was a man who had been demon-possessed who begged to go
00:57with Jesus and Jesus said you ain't going with me. I'm going over there with your
01:04family and tell your family how I changed your life around. You may be
01:11seated. I want to preach for a little while today using as a subject why God
01:21doesn't answer your man's prayer.
01:27Why God doesn't answer your man's prayer. I sure wish I could share with you a
01:41formula that is surefire on how to get your prayers answered but there isn't
01:52one. Some people who are sitting on your row will pray to get out of jury duty.
02:02Somebody sitting in front of you will pray that the shoe is in their size and
02:09in stock. There's some people who will pray Lord don't let them see me because
02:18you see them in the mall. Others of you will pray Lord let my supervisor be in a
02:25good mood so they can sign my PTO and amazingly those prayers might get
02:38answered. But on the other side of your row there was somebody who was praying
02:44and travailing to get out of a domestic violence situation. Somebody who's
02:55praying for their sugar levels to normalize. Somebody else is praying for
03:02the case to be dismissed. For stains to come off of their credit and those
03:10people sometimes hear nothing. Depending on what side of the pendulum you're on
03:21answered prayers can feel like a needle in a haystack. And I want you to come
03:30with me to Matthew chapter 5. In Matthew chapter 5 we are met with two
03:37different prayers in one passage. Matthew 5, two different prayers in one passage.
03:46One prayer comes from a man who has been delivered from demons and the other
03:55prayer comes from a hellion who is bent on living high off the hog. The first man
04:04in Matthew chapter 5 has been tormented by evil spirits in the cemetery. Nothing
04:13could restrain him, not even chains. Christ sent his end to scripture one day
04:21and he cast out all of those demons. I need you to see the picture. And the man
04:29who just got delivered from being demonically possessed goes to our loving
04:36Lord and Savior and says, can I follow you? He just got set free, he just got
04:43delivered, he just got made whole and he said Lord I want to follow you. And God
04:51says no. And right after that our perplexity is compounded because we are
04:59met by another prayer. And this time, hear this, the prayer is from the demon. And
05:08the demon has the nerve to ask God can you put me where I want to go, which is
05:18in a herd of pigs. And the Lord says yes. The Lord answered the prayer of the
05:30demon but denies the prayer of the delivered. And this is a conundrum of
05:42sorts because even though the Lord drives out the demons from the man and
05:49the man requests his address, he said I want to live in pigs. I got a pause right
05:59here, I got a pause right here. Isn't it amazing how demons can request an
06:05address about where they want to live and yet you have no expectation about
06:13your next house. Oh I don't know who's in this room but God is getting ready to
06:20answer the prayer about your living arrangements.
06:27He drives the evil spirit out of the man and it goes into the pigs and do you
06:34know what happened? The pigs jump over a cliff. It's 2,000 of them and they jump
06:42over a cliff. The pigs commit suicide. I want to say something to you and I want
06:49you to lift your hands to receive it. Lift up that hand to receive what I want
06:53to declare over your life. Whatever has been attacking you is about to kill
07:00itself.
07:07You just missed what I just said. I said whatever has been attacking you is about
07:14to kill itself because it didn't have authority to kill you.
07:21Demons would rather die than see you get delivered. We subscribe to the fact that
07:33the Almighty is omniscient so he had to have known what was going to happen and
07:39yet he still granted the requests and after it is that the pigs jump over the
07:47cliff, 2,000 of them, immediately they want to evict Jesus from the region. They
07:55don't want Jesus there because he's messing up their income. They don't want
08:02Jesus there. Can you imagine 2,000 pigs in the lake, 2,000 pigs in the ocean and
08:11they're all dead. And that is the prayer Jesus answered. But I want to go
08:20backwards and I want your thinking caps on for you to look at the text from a
08:25completely different vantage point and I want to delve into the possibility on
08:31why it is that Jesus denied the man's request. He said to the man who had just
08:39been delivered, go home to your family and tell them what I've done for you. And
08:48the Bible says, and he did it. Now that says to me that the man wasn't always in
09:00the cemetery. He used to be at home. It says to me that this man who's been
09:08delivered quite possibly is married, quite possibly has children. But when he
09:21was dating the woman, he wasn't demon-possessed.
09:28When they got engaged, he wasn't demon-possessed. When they had the reveal
09:41party for the babies, he wasn't demon-possessed. But the demon seeped in
09:50slowly but surely. All of a sudden this man started getting angry, became
10:01short-tempered. Patience was on a short leash. After he got angry, he got silent.
10:11Just sit in the man cave, would just watch TV, would rather sit in his car. He
10:22became withdrawn. They couldn't even get the young man to come out of his room,
10:30played video games all day. He became impatient with the people who loved him.
10:39But understanding for the people who worked with him. He became hot-tempered
10:47out of nowhere. The wife tried everything. She tried
10:52counseling. She tried separation. She tried even medication. Tried even
11:01separation. Until finally for her own mental health and for the welfare of a
11:08family, she asked him to go. This house cannot be a house of peace when you're
11:16still wrestling with your demons. Had to ask her brothers and her father to come.
11:25I love them but I need them out of here. It ain't safe, the children are scared. We
11:33don't even know what man he's going to be in when he comes home from work. Got no
11:38idea what's gonna tick him off and what's gonna make him lash out. He gotta
11:42get out of here. And he doesn't even know as a man how to make good decisions. He
11:53only makes decisions that hurt himself. So he keeps gambling. He keeps doing
12:03drugs. He keeps drinking. He keeps cheating. He keeps going in the club. He
12:12keeps staying out all night. He can't stay here. He's got to go somewhere. And
12:21after he leaves his family, the only place he feels alive is in a cemetery. I
12:29came to wake up some man in this room who has become so comfortable around death
12:37that you don't even recognize that Jesus came that you might have life and have it
12:43more abundantly. I came to tell somebody that God is getting ready to intervene
12:49for you on behalf of a son who's comfortable around death. I don't know
12:55where you are, but God is getting ready to disrupt a cycle of behavior for a
13:00brother that is teetering right on the brink of death. I don't know where you
13:06are, but some of y'all are shouting over cars and clothes and money. But God says
13:12today, I'm getting ready to stop a man from a premature death. I'm getting ready
13:19to stand in the way of whatever society thought was gonna kill him, but he's
13:25still gonna live through it. He goes into the cemetery, and they try to shackle him
13:35down with chains, and he keeps breaking out of the chains. There was nothing that
13:43will make him settle down. Not even chains make him settle down. How old do
13:50you want to be before you settle down? What's it gonna take for you to realize
13:59you ain't no boy no more? Act like a man. When are you gonna come to the
14:05realization that you gotta work if you gonna eat? You can't be walking around
14:11talking about, I can't work for nobody. Then work for yourself. Your children are
14:17dependent on you.
14:22Chains can't hold them down. And God says, you ain't following me. Go back home.
14:42I need you to go home. That is the best thing you can do for the kingdom, is go
14:52home. I need you to go back to the house and show your children, and to show your
15:03wife, and to show your mama what God can do in the life of a man that's been
15:12transformed. I don't need you shouting around here if you ain't serving in your
15:20house. Go home!
15:27Says I need you to go there. Don't talk her to death. She's tired of you
15:35manipulating and gaslighting her, and lying through your teeth. Go home and
15:43model that you are a transformed man. A changed man is a change of behavior, but
15:54a transformed man is a change of desire. Y'all dismiss what I just said. Change is
16:03behavior, but transformation is desire. You can change from your cheating ways
16:10for three months. Y'all ain't saying nothing to me, but a transformed man. I
16:17don't care what you put in front of me. It ain't gonna make me jeopardize my
16:23family, because my desire is change.
16:32The women in your life, the children in your life are tired of you talking about
16:38you are changed. Model that you are transformed, and you are only transformed
16:46by the renewing of your mind. He didn't say go buy the house. He said stay there
16:54until they can see something different has come over your life. All right, y'all
17:01don't want to shout. Let me see if I can help 50 of y'all in this room. This ain't
17:05even for the women. This is for the men in this room. God says I am NOT gonna let
17:11the women in your life die without seeing who I am in your life. Your family
17:20is gonna be convinced there is a man of God, that God must be alive, because if he
17:29changed that man, God can change anybody. If y'all don't believe it, you ought to
17:36shout for your son. You ought to shout for your brother. You ought to shout for
17:42your husband. God is gonna change that man.
17:49Your family is going to see this year how you have transformed. Hallelujah.
18:02Thank you, Holy God. I want every man to lay hands on yourself. Every man lay
18:09hands on yourself. I need the demons that have been attacking you to hear this
18:14declaration out loud. I need every man lay hands on yourself and shout out loud
18:21I am NOT the same man. Come on, I need you to say it with authority. I am NOT the
18:28same man. You may be seated. Since you can't go home the same, you got to have
18:42evidence. They need to know that you are transformed. So I'm letting you have
18:49three pieces of evidence. Said the first one, watch this, I'm still in chapter 5, he
18:57said the first one is you are sitting. Hallelujah. You are sitting. Why is that
19:05important? Because when he was in the cemetery, he could not sit still. Ladies
19:11and gentlemen, God is getting ready to give the men in your life a level of
19:16stability. Hallelujah. That they are gonna be secure in their position, they are
19:24gonna be certain about their assignment, and they're gonna be clear in their
19:29relationship with God. Men, I don't need y'all to stand up in this service, but
19:35sisters, I dare you to give the men around you a standing ovation. If you
19:41believe they're getting ready to be sitting in places of authority.
19:55Hallelujah. You better cheer for that man. Society has tried to kill him. The world
20:03has tried to eat him up. White supremacy has tried to devour him. You better cheer
20:10for that man. He's sitting in a place of authority.
20:17Said that man was sitting. Not only is that man sitting, you may be seated
20:24sisters, not only is that man seated, watch this, but the man, the Bible says in
20:30Mark chapter 5 that he is dressed. Hallelujah. Because you remember when he
20:37was in the cemetery, he's naked and cutting himself. This is the second time
20:42that we find a man naked. The last time we found it was in Genesis, when Adam had
20:49eaten up the forbidden fruit, and God comes traipsing through the garden and
20:54says to him, who told you you were naked? Hallelujah. Because the enemy is always
21:01trying to break the self-esteem of a man. But God says I'm getting ready to
21:06cover you. The reason why I'm giving God glory is because God had just covered the
21:13males in your family. I don't know how y'all are sitting still. There is a
21:21bulletproof anointing that is on the life of the men in your family. I dare you to
21:29open up your mouth. The men in your family will not rot in prison. They will
21:36not rot in jail. They will not rot in depression. God said I got a covering for
21:43the men in your family.
21:49Says thirdly, not only are they sitting, not only are they dressed, but they got
21:57their right mind. Hallelujah. Thank you holy God. Hey, thank you holy God. Oh my
22:08gosh. I woke up this morning with my mind stayed on Jesus. I know some of y'all
22:19are just shouting for a rich man, but God if you just give me a sane man, if you
22:25just give me a thinking man, if you just give me a strategizing man, give me a man
22:33that's got his mind intact.
22:38Says you are transformed by the renewing of your mind. Gentlemen, I want you to lay
22:44hands on your mind. Hallelujah. Because of the power of the blood of Calvary, I
22:53declare over the mind of men that in this moment you are being delivered from
22:59PTSD. God, I can't hear nobody. You are delivered from the trauma as
23:07inflicted by your father or your stepfather. I declare over the mind of
23:13every man that is listening to my voice that you are free from depression and
23:18anxiety and from bipolar disorder and ADHD. I dare somebody to open up your
23:26mouth if you want God to cover the mind.
23:34The Bible says that when he was clothed in his right mind, the people were scared
23:42of him. Y'all got to read this Bible. It says, hear this, that when he's clothed in
23:49his right mind, the people are scared of him. Why is that important? Because they
23:55were not scared of him as long as he was demon-possessed. But when his mind
24:04is yielded over to the Holy Ghost, they know that's a bad brother right there
24:11that's getting ready to change the world. Do you know how dangerous you are, black
24:17man? If you get your mind on right and love black women and love black children
24:24and love our community, do you know how dangerous it is when you ain't living
24:31just for today but you creating generational wealth? Do you know how
24:37crazy it's getting ready to be?
24:41They're scared of him when he got his right mind. I saw my mentor this week,
24:50Reb Nell Sharpton, and he's drinking a green smoothie and somebody walked up on
24:56him, said, Reb, you got to eat something. You scaring me, you getting too skinny.
25:02You got to eat something. And Reb Sharpton said to him, it's amazing how nobody was
25:09scared for my health when I was obese.
25:14When I was eating hamburgers every day and milkshakes, nobody said they was
25:19worried about me. But now that I'm trying to get my body in shape, now
25:25everybody is concerned. I need you to look at your neighbor and say, do you
25:29know how scared they're getting ready to be of you? Do you know what kind of
25:34threat you are to the world? Do you know what you're gonna do to this nation when
25:40you rise up with your right mind? Do you know how scared these racists are that
25:47you're about to elect a black woman president? Do you know what it's gonna do?
25:52Because their mind is scared.
26:00Mind is scared. You may be seeing that in the presence of the Lord, says, I am getting
26:11ready to do something that is so significant that I have got to make sure
26:19that I get rid of everything that attached to you illegally.
26:29Whatever attached itself illegally to the man in your life, y'all ain't saying
26:37nothing to me, whatever demonic principality thought it had authority
26:44over your son, your husband, your boyfriend, or your father, I'm getting
26:50ready to run it over the cliff this morning so it don't ever come back. Pigs
26:59are the nastiest thing on the farm. Pigs will sleep with anything. Pigs will eat
27:08anything. Pigs don't even know how to take care of itself. But I need you to
27:14look at your neighbor and say, neighbor, today the men in your life are about to
27:22be free cuz we running out the pigs. I need you to shout in this room, God said
27:30when you give me glory, I'm running out the pigs of depression, the pig of
27:37night tremors, the pig of pancreatic cancer, the pig of unfulfillment, the pig
27:45of being a womanizer, the pig of generational poverty, the pig of
27:52disappointment, the pig of insecurity, the pig of being misogynistic, the pig of
28:00low self-esteem, the pig of insecurity, the pig of being threatened by a
28:08confident black woman. When you open up your mouth, kill all the pigs. I ain't raising no
28:17pig in this house. I'm not feeding no pig in this house. No pig is getting in my bed.
28:30Come on, I can't hear you. Run the pigs out. Get them out of your phone. Get that pig out of
28:39your DM. If you watching me online, get the pig out of your car. Drive the pigs out.
28:57Lift up that hand.
29:09The man asked Jesus, lift that hand. The man asked Jesus, can I follow you? Can I go
29:23with you? And the master said, no, you can't go with me. You got to go home. The
29:35only reason God is not answering your man's prayer yet, is he's answering the
29:44woman in his life's prayer first.
29:54I wish I had praying women in here. I need some women to shout. If you've been
30:01talking to God, and you need God to show you something, you need God to reveal
30:08something, you need God to expose something. God said, I got to answer that
30:15woman's prayer first.
30:22Lift up that hand. I want to pray for you.
30:31I pray for women who have been praying, for mothers who have been praying, for
30:50wives who've been praying, for daughters who have been praying, that God will
30:59answer your prayer. That God won't show you a changed man. He'll show you a
31:07transformed man. God, I thought y'all were going to shout better than that. Their
31:14appetite is changed. Their desire is changed. I don't need you to perform for me. I need a
31:22transformation in your lifestyle.
31:28Brothers, lift that hand as high as you can. I pray that God will answer the
31:34prayers of men. That your family will see you differently. That your loved ones
31:44will recognize you are not who you used to be. I pray for every man with lifted
31:50hands, that all of the demons you have been fighting now have to wave the white
31:58flag. Whatever that demon thought it was going to do to you, it has no victory
32:05over your life.
32:09And I declare it to be so, in Jesus' name. I need you to help me for just one
32:16moment. Betty Crocker said, for the best results, follow directions. Listen to me.
32:22I want you just for 30 seconds. Listen to me. Just for 30 seconds. Brothers, if it's
32:28for you, then do that. Sisters, for whoever it is for, I need you to just jump into
32:33fire with us. For just 30 seconds, would you just begin to worship for the
32:37transformation of men in your life? Come on, I can't hear nobody. For your
32:46baby daddy. For your boyfriend. For the one you thinking about giving another
32:53chance to. Come on, open up your mouth. I need a transformation to happen. I need
33:03you to shift something. I need you to do something. I need you to model something.
33:12God, I need you to show me the one I gave up on. I need you to show me for the one
33:23I said it ain't no use. They always gonna be that way. I declare it to be so. Come
33:31on, I need you in an uproarious way. Would you just give God thanksgiving?
33:42Listen to me. Pastor Ross had people here at this altar early this morning
33:49praying for men. And I'm doing the exact same today. I'm gonna open the altar up.
33:57I'm gonna open up the doors of the church. I need you to listen to me with
34:00specificity and with clarity. I'm opening up this altar even for
34:06those of you electronically. I'm opening up the altar for men. Watch this. I'm
34:10getting ready to get saved. Men are getting ready to join the church. Men are
34:15getting ready to start the journey of transformation. They're getting ready to do
34:21it one step at a time. Listen to me. When these men start coming to the altar, I
34:28want you to cheer for them because you don't know what demons they had to fight.
34:33It might have been warfare just for them to get to church today. But I don't know
34:39where you are. I don't know where you are. I don't know who you are. But if you're a
34:43man in this room and you can hear my voice, you're saying, Pastor, you got no
34:47idea how brutal this fight has been, how diabolical this wrestling has been. I
34:53almost lost it all. The others of you, you've lost it all. Lost your family, lost
35:00your footing, lost your identity.
35:10But if there are men in this room that need to get to Jesus, I need you to get
35:15to this altar. Fathers in this room that need to get to the Master.
35:26If y'all don't shout for these men,
35:31y'all still ain't shouting good.
35:47There's a man in this room that needs a church home. You need to get right with
35:54God.
36:01You should have been dead. You should have been in your grave. You should have
36:08been in jail. But God spared your life. I need you to get to this altar.
36:31I'm so glad. Are y'all gonna give God glory?
36:51Listen to me. I'm so grateful. I'm so grateful that I serve a God who didn't
37:00just die for men. I'm thankful that I serve a God who's not afraid of strong
37:07women. Come on, y'all ain't saying nothing in here. If there's some women in this
37:15room that are saying, Pastor, this is the kind of church I need to be a part of.
37:20This is the kind of ministry I feel safe raising my son in. This is the kind of
37:25environment where I believe our community can grow. I don't know where
37:30you are, sister, but I want to be your pastor. I want New Birth to be your
37:34church. I want Jesus to be the head of your life, no matter where you are. Come
37:39on, would you come meet us at this altar? Come on, quickly.
