Farmers call for government actions as severe drought in Serbia forces early harvests

The provincial Government claims that it is preventing the desertification of the area by investing into the regional hydrologic system.

00:00Sunflower harvest and corn harvest started in some parts of Serbia much earlier than usual.

00:08The reason for this is a severe drought.

00:12This region has been affected for the third year in a row and the consequences are obvious.

00:19The corn yield is expected to be three times lower than usual.

00:46Our crops depend on how much God will add water from heaven.

00:56A lot of people have come here in the last few years.

01:03They sell their machinery and land to pay off their loans and rents.

01:11Because of the drought, agriculture is not doing well this year.

01:16If the state doesn't take action, we will all go and become social slaves.

01:26We asked the municipality two years ago to declare a drought emergency.

01:37We couldn't do anything. We stood on the street for ten days.
