Transcript
00:00Today is the feast of Saint Monica, the mother of the great Saint Augustine.
00:20She was married to a pagan, she was a Christian, and as often the custom in those days, people
00:26were often baptized later.
00:28Augustine tried all types of things, the Manichaean heresy, he had a mistress, he had a son, he
00:35did all types of things which hurt her heart, but she never stopped praying for him.
00:42And eventually he not only became a Christian, but he became a bishop and a great saint and
00:47a great teacher of the faith.
00:49A reminder to stay faithful ourselves in trusting in God's ongoing grace.
00:55In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, peace be with you.
01:00We acknowledge our sins, we acknowledge the compassion, the mercy, and the love of God.
01:05Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy, may Almighty God have mercy on us,
01:13forgive us our sins, and lead us into life everlasting.
01:18O God, who consoled the sorrowful, and who mercifully accepted the motherly tears of
01:24Saint Monica for the conversion of her son Augustine, grant us, through the intercession
01:30of them both, that we may bitterly regret our sins, and find the grace of your pardon.
01:36Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of
01:41the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.
01:44Amen.
01:46A reading from the book of Ecclesiasticus.
01:51Happy the husband of a really good wife.
01:54The number of his days will be doubled.
01:57A perfect wife is the joy of her husband.
02:00He will live out the years of his life in peace.
02:03A good wife is the best of portions, reserved for those who fear the Lord.
02:09Rich or poor, they will be glad of heart, cheerful of face.
02:15Whatever their season, the grace of a wife will charm her husband.
02:20Her accomplishment will make him the stronger.
02:23A silent wife is a gift from the Lord.
02:26No price can be put on a well-trained character.
02:30A modest wife is a womb twice over.
02:33A chaste character cannot be weighed on scales.
02:37Like the sun rising over the mountains of the Lord, is the beauty of a good wife in
02:42a well-kept house.
02:45The word of the Lord thanks be to God.
02:49In you, Lord, I have found my peace.
02:52In you, Lord, I have found my peace.
02:55O Lord, my heart is not proud nor haughty in my eyes.
02:59I have not gone far after things too great, nor marvels beyond me.
03:04In you, Lord, I have found my peace.
03:07Truly, I have set my soul in silence and peace.
03:10A weaned child on its mother's breast, even so is my soul.
03:15O Lord, my heart is not proud nor haughty in my eyes.
03:20I have not gone after things too great, nor marvels beyond me.
03:24Love Israel, hope in the Lord, both now and forever.
03:29Alleluia, Alleluia.
03:32I am the light of the world, says the Lord.
03:35Whoever follows me will have the light of life.
03:38Alleluia.
03:41The Lord be with you.
03:43A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke.
03:46Glory to you, O Lord.
03:48Jesus went to a town called Nain, accompanied by his disciples and a great number of people.
03:57When he was near the gate of the town, it happened that a dead man was being carried out for burial, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow.
04:07And a considerable number of the townspeople were with her.
04:11When the Lord saw her, he felt sorry for her.
04:14Do not cry, he said.
04:16Then he went up and put his hand on the bear, and the bearer stood still, and he said, Young man, I tell you to get up.
04:24And the dead man sat up and began to talk.
04:27And Jesus gave him to his mother.
04:30Everyone was filled with awe and praised God, saying, A great prophet has appeared among us.
04:36God has visited his people.
04:38And this opinion of him spread throughout Judea and all over the countryside.
04:46The Gospel of the Lord.
04:48Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
04:51Yes, it is as if Augustine had come back to life from being dead within him.
04:58The grace of God is bigger than our obstacle, any obstacle.
05:02Monica reminds us to be faithful and trust.
05:06And we know that everyone we pray for is loved by God more than we love them.
05:11And we know that God will be with them.
05:15Always with them.
05:17Despite what troubles and tribulations they might pass through, God is still loving and with them.
05:25So we are called to be people of hope and trust.
05:33Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have this bread to offer,
05:38which earth has given, human hands have made, will become for us the bread of life.
05:43Blessed be God forever.
05:47Amen.
06:01Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have this wine to offer,
06:07fruit of divine work of human hands, it will become a spiritual drink.
06:12Blessed be God forever.
06:17Amen.
06:47Amen.
06:52Let us pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, our Almighty Father.
06:58May the Lord accept this sacrifice at our hands for the praise and glory of God's name,
07:03for our good and the good of God's holy church.
07:07Amen.
07:16We bring you these sacrificial gifts, O Lord, to commemorate.
07:19Blessed Monica, humbly entreating that they may bestow on us for pardon and salvation,
07:26through Christ our Lord.
07:28Amen.
07:29Amen.
07:35The Lord be with you.
07:37Lift up your hearts.
07:39Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God.
07:42It is truly right and just, much more than a duty, and good for our salvation,
07:47always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God,
07:52through Christ our Lord.
07:54For in the marvelous confession of your saints, you make your church fruitful with strength ever new,
08:00and offer us true signs of your love, and that your saving mysteries may be fulfilled.
08:06Their great example lends us courage.
08:09Their fervent prayers sustain us in all we do.
08:12And so, Lord, with all the angels and saints, we too give you thanks, as in exaltation we acclaim,
08:19Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts, Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
08:25Hosanna in the highest.
08:28Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
08:31Hosanna in the highest.
08:34You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.
08:37Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,
08:44that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
08:49At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread,
08:55and giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying,
09:00Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you.
09:07In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice, and once more giving thanks,
09:17he gave it to his disciples, saying, Take this, all of you, and drink from it,
09:22for this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant,
09:27which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
09:33Do this in memory of me.
09:41The mystery of faith.
09:43Save us, Savior of the world, for by your cross and resurrection you have set us free.
09:50Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection,
09:54we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation,
09:59giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you.
10:05Humbly we pray that, partaking of the body and blood of Christ,
10:09we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
10:13Remember, Lord, your Church, spread throughout the world,
10:16and bring her to the fullness of charity.
10:19Together with Francis, our Pope, me, your unworthy servant,
10:23Eugene, our Emeritus Bishop, all the clergy who serve your people,
10:27and the entire people your Son has made for you.
10:31Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection,
10:36and all who have died in your mercy.
10:39Welcome them into the light of your face.
10:42Have mercy on us all, we pray,
10:44that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, Blessed Joseph, her Spouse,
10:48with the Blessed Apostles, Saint Monica,
10:51and all the Saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,
10:54we may, through your grace, merit to be co-hosts with one another,
10:58and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.
11:05Through him, and with him, and in him, O God, Almighty Father,
11:09in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
11:11all glory and honour is yours for ever and ever. Amen.
11:18At the Saviour's command and form of divine teaching, we dare to say,
11:22Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
11:26Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
11:31Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
11:36as we forgive those who trespass against us.
11:40And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
11:44Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil.
11:47Graciously grant peace in our days,
11:50that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin
11:54and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope
11:58and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
12:01For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever.
12:06Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles,
12:09Peace I leave you, my peace I give you,
12:11look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church,
12:15and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will.
12:19Who live and reign for ever and ever. Amen.
12:22The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.
12:26Let us offer each other a sign of peace.
12:29Peace be with you all.
12:31Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
12:37Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
12:42Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.
12:49Amen.
13:00Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
13:04Happy are those who are called to the supper of the Lamb.
13:07Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof,
13:10but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
13:14My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament.
13:19I love you above all things and I desire to receive you into my soul.
13:24Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
13:27come at least spiritually into my heart.
13:30I embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to you.
13:35Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.
13:40Let us pray.
13:46May the working of this divine sacrament enlighten and inflame us, almighty God,
13:51on this feast day of St. Monica,
13:53that we may be ever fervent with holy desires and upholding good works.
13:59Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
14:01The Lord be with you.
14:03And may the peace and the blessing of the Father and of the Son
14:07and of the Holy Spirit come upon you and remain always with you.
14:10Let us go and live the gospel.
14:12Thanks be to God and God bless your day.
