00:00We are starting to see some slight increases to the winds across the area and with that
00:07is coming an increase in requests for assistance. We are still expecting those winds to increase
00:12throughout the evening and into the hours of tomorrow morning. So there is a warning
00:18out at the moment currently for severe winds as well as damaging waves as well as high
00:30tides. So certainly time for Victorians to be taking the opportunity to prepare for this
00:38event, ensuring that any loose items are secured and that cars are parked in shelter.
00:46It sounds pretty scary when the Bureau is talking about winds up to 150kmh. I think
00:52that has come back now to 130. That is only in the highest areas, isn't it? How serious
00:59could this get tonight? We are expecting potential for winds in the 60-80km range
01:07with gusts of up to 100kmh across the state. Those higher totals that you have been mentioning
01:14in the order of the 130km are likely to be limited to the alpine areas,
01:20though just sustained winds in that 50-60-70kmh range certainly is a larger wind event than we
01:29have seen for some time in Victoria. You have already mentioned this briefly,
01:34but what are you urging people to do ahead of this? Absolutely. Certainly take the time to
01:41secure any items around your property, but also consider the travel that you may be doing
01:48both throughout the evening and into tomorrow morning, ensuring to avoid unnecessary travel
01:55during those peak periods of wind, so the late hours of tonight into the early hours of tomorrow
02:03morning. For people that are needing to undertake travel tomorrow morning, please do check in
02:09with any of the road networks or any warnings that may be current for your area to ensure
02:15that the routes that you're taking are safe to travel.
