00:00So pretty scorching temperatures heading towards south-eastern Australia in the next few days.
00:05In fact it started yesterday in South Australia in particular about 36 degrees in Adelaide,
00:11the warmest day there since March, but parts of the state were into the low 40s.
00:16Today we see that heat spread out primarily across Victoria, a hot day across the state,
00:20as I say 10 to 12 degrees above the normal for this time of year.
00:24That puts Melbourne at about 34 degrees today, 36 tomorrow, large parts of Victoria mid to
00:30upper 30s today.
00:31Also as we get into the weekend it'll be warm across Tasmania, high 20s for many down there,
00:36not quite as hot but still some pretty warm temperatures, and the heat will move into
00:40large parts of New South Wales as well, mid to upper 30s across much of the state there.
00:45So it's pretty widespread heat.
00:47When it comes to heatwaves, much of the southeast has what we call low intensity heatwave, which
00:51is sort of the lowest threshold required to call it a heatwave, but we've also got some
00:56areas reaching severe heatwave, and that's where we get our severe heatwave warnings
01:00being issued.
01:01So currently that includes east Gippsland in Victoria, as well as the south coast in
01:05Snowy Mountains in southern New South Wales.
01:07When you get hot days, and particularly when you get hot dry days, it always does raise
01:12the fire danger.
01:13So we've got some widespread high fire danger across the southeast with a few areas looking
01:18at extreme fire danger, where we get a bit of wind kicking in as well.
01:22So at the moment that's looking to be parts of western South Australia, and parts of northwestern
01:26Victoria, seeing those extreme fire dangers and associated fire weather warnings.
