00:00In 2012, for the first time in what was then 52 years, Team GB fielded a football team
00:06to compete at the Olympic Games in London. It was a controversial decision given the
00:11independent nature of the home nation's teams, but went ahead despite not having the backing
00:15of the Welsh, Scottish or Northern Irish FA's, with 5 Welsh players and 13 English.
00:21It ended with a quarterfinal defeat to South Korea, and for most of us that seemed to be
00:25the end of the story, but the British Olympic Association has brought up the matter once
00:29again for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. They say they want to explore the possibility
00:35of bringing a team together to qualify, but the Welsh FA has since come out to quell the
00:39talks and say their focus is on Wales qualifying for major tournaments, not Team GB.
00:45It's unclear as of yet what plans the BOA have for Team GB, but it seems the home nations
00:49do not back the idea and it seems unlikely to go ahead.
00:53Online opinions are divided, but generally speaking, Welsh football fans are against
00:57the proposals.
