00:00Do you feel like your mobile phone signal has been getting worse recently?
00:03Have you been out and about during the summer holidays and you've gone to a city or a big town
00:07and even though your phone says it's got 5G, it's taken forever for Google Maps to load,
00:11for WhatsApp messages to come through, if you're loading up a website to
00:16check a transfer rumour it's taken forever to load. Well, you're not imagining things.
00:22Hi, I'm technology writer Matt Mohn-Hickson and in this video we'll be taking a look at why
00:27mobile phone speeds have been so poor in the UK recently and what can be done to fix it.
00:31Now, you might be wondering how your area compares to the worst places in the UK for phone signal.
00:37Well, thankfully, the website Nomads pulled together a list of the 10 postcode dead spots
00:42which are the absolute worst places for getting a mobile phone signal in the entire country.
00:47It includes Asholt and Somerset, East Antsea and Devon, Hanbury and Worcestershire,
00:54Higham in Kent, Hubert's Bridge in Lancashire, Lupit in Devon, Mayfield in East Sussex,
01:02Rudgeley in Staffordshire, Rushton Spencer in Staffordshire as well and Ugburra in Devon.
01:10These are the 10 mobile phone postcode dead spots with the worst signal in the entire country.
01:15Now, that doesn't mean that other places don't have bad signal but these just top the list.
01:19The reason we're experiencing abysmal mobile phone speeds at the moment in the UK is,
01:25at least according to Andy Atkinson who is the co-founder of the disruptive mobile network Honest,
01:32because of our failure to invest in telecom infrastructure in the UK
01:37and if we want to improve things that's where we'll have to start.
01:40What do you think we could do about improving phone signal?
01:43Should it simply just be investing more money in telecommunications networks
01:48or is there other paths that we could take? Please let us know your opinions.
