00:06Perfecting the art of fresh and Sam Kennedy joins us this morning. Hey, Sam
00:12Morning guys. How are you? We're doing great
00:15We're we're discussing the big announcement by Gerard Mayo about the starting quarterback. I would let me ask you this you're a Patriots fan
00:23And you from time to time have decisions like these
00:27With the collaboratively to make with Alex Cora and Craig Breslow. Do you prefer in general?
00:33Grizzled journeyman veteran or high draft pick rookie Sam Kennedy
00:40I'm with Nick
00:41I mean you guys like let's let's let the season start before we start like declaring that the season's over and I love what he
00:49Said what's up with you media types?
00:54Listen the last thing the last thing the Patriots need is some dope from the Red Sox
00:59Commenting about what's happening at their place. We got enough of our own problem. Well, listen, uh
01:05Couple wins here and things turn around a little bit and I'm wondering when you look at Alex Cora
01:13Given these guys the opportunity to show up a little bit later show up at four
01:18Is that a factor you think when it comes to this team at this point in the season?
01:23Yeah, there's no doubt about I mean, there's a really frustrating week
01:27August has been a grind. We've struggled. No, no sugarcoating that
01:32AC is always looking for ways to
01:34To get guys into a better place physically and mentally and so yeah
01:40I think it was a great move and we'll we'll see what what he comes up with next
01:45But but good to stabilize things the last couple days and we've got a 30 game sprint now
01:50I mean, it's it's it's going to be hard. We've dug ourselves
01:54Quite a hole, but we're still not out of this thing and we got to keep pressing forward
02:00Sam bringing up Ridge Hill at the age of 44 from Worcester
02:03What went into that decision and what does he bring at that age to this team?
02:09Well, I mean he's I think this is the eighth time we've
02:13so
02:15Just a remarkable for a local guy he impressed their kids go to school together. So I think that's
02:22That's how it happened
02:25He's been an amazing member of many major league
02:29Organizations and a part of the Red Sox for just I've been around 23 years
02:34So just about as long as I've been around we seem to see
02:37Ourselves passing in the hallways with Rich Hill every few years
02:41Gladys back
02:43Stabilizing veteran force and we're gonna see if he's got something left in the tank
02:47Sam you talked about how your team has done a whole dug a hole
02:50How does Alex and front office make sure that the team?
02:57doesn't
02:58Allow the frustration or disappointment as it you know as it is a deeper hole
03:03Not to kind of give into those negative feelings, which if you lose a couple games, you might have some guys that tend to check out
03:13Yeah, it's a great question
03:14we give because you know a lot better than anybody is sports is such are such a game of momentum and
03:22You know
03:22you saw what what Alex and the coaching staff did the last couple days to sort of shock the system with a with a late
03:29reporting time and getting everybody to relax listen, I will say the
03:34the the contagious and momentum nature of our sport
03:39Can be helpful when you you know, you put together two wins like we have the last two days hopefully we can build on it
03:46But you've got a resilient group of young guys. I mean all year long
03:52Players that have just stepped up and really said listen, we don't care
03:56There's not a lot of expectations from the outside
03:59We had high expectations from the inside of that clubhouse and across the organization. So just blocking it out
04:05I heard Tristan Casas addressing the five-game losing streak and he was great about it. He said listen doesn't bother us
04:12You know, we're ready to go. So there's belief resiliency
04:16and and a lot of talent in that clubhouse, so
04:20It's hard, but you just have to just stay positive. It's such a grind
04:25I feel like August has been a bugaboo for us and you know
04:302021
04:31where we you know, we've had a
04:34Bit of a dive and we got to get we had a great month of April and in June
04:40Solid July and it's just been frustrating to fall off here in August
04:44But hopefully we stopped the bleeding the other night. We can get back on track
04:48Speaking of Casas. Is there ever a time when you see him out in the outfield shirt off?
04:53Facemask on ski goggles, whatever and you say what are you doing? I
04:57I
04:58Love this guy. I mean he is he is as authentic as they come. He is a great player
05:05Guy can guy can mash and he's he's just he's just awesome. He's a character great personality
05:12the game needs more
05:15Tristan Casas is they really do and I remember a funny story about him
05:20I met his dad when we when we picked him in the first round many years ago
05:24And I was watching him hitting the cage. And yeah, I made a
05:29Stupid comment like wow, you know, you can't teach that or something. So what do you mean?
05:32You can't teach that we paid for lessons for this kid, you know
05:39He's worked at it Tristan has worked at it he is
05:44Disciplined he's obviously very unique
05:46But just a great presence in the clubhouse and really really glad he's back. He had a brutal injury
05:53That's a horrible baseball injury and so glad to have him back
05:58What's going on with him? Are there are there talks ongoing if you guys put that off until the offseason, what's the update on that?
06:05Yeah, no, no talks. I'm going right now
06:08But we have had talks in the past and those will continue certainly, you know
06:12A lot of these younger players who have emerged as as mainstays with the club
06:17You want to try and keep around for for a long time?
06:21And so hopefully that'll be the case with Tristan and others. All right, Sam. Well, thanks for taking the time
06:26We'll talk to you again soon and keep it going over there. All right, guys
06:30Thanks a lot. Talk to you guys. Oh, you guys have a way of pulling us back in every time
06:34We might be out Sam, you know that he hung up on
06:38Like Mayo it was done
