00:01Bullying?
00:02How about propping up a corrupt monarchy?
00:05Sonic the Hedgehog has some serious crimes to answer for.
00:09Acorn is a peaceful kingdom, home to the colorful cast of the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series.
00:14The comic version of the Blue Blur comes with a hefty dose of lore and a number of characters
00:19that never appear in the game's series.
00:21But that doesn't mean that the events on the page are any less important.
00:25In fact, many of Sonic's biggest misdeeds take place in the world of the comics.
00:30One time, Sonic even destroyed Knothole, the peaceful forest village where he and his friends
00:34live.
00:35Okay, so it wasn't Sonic exactly, or at least he wasn't in control of his actions.
00:40Issue 39 of Sonic the Hedgehog sees the first appearance of Mecha-Sonic, the roboticized
00:45version of our super-fast hero.
00:48After being turned into Mecha-Sonic by Dr. Robotnik, Sonic travels back to destroy his
00:53home.
00:54He and his friends put up a fight, but it all looks pretty bleak until Knuckles arrives.
00:58In a special issue, Sonic & Knuckle Mecha-Madness, Knuckles also becomes roboticized to face
01:04off against Mecha-Sonic.
01:05Unfortunately, his plan doesn't work, and Mecha-Sonic really messes up Knothole Village.
01:12The Sword of the Acorns is one of the more fantastical elements introduced in the Sonic
01:16the Hedgehog comics.
01:17While Sonic is typically an honorable wielder of the sword, there was one specific instance
01:22where he let his friends — and the kingdom — down.
01:25In Sonic the Hedgehog issue 89, King Max is rushed into emergency surgery, which ultimately
01:31left him paralyzed.
01:32In the previous issue, Sonic was supposed to protect the king from Robotnik's forces,
01:37but failed miserably.
01:39Sonic attempts to make good with the royal family by stealing the Sword of Acorns and
01:43going out on a mission to defeat Dr. Robotnik once and for all.
01:47Unfortunately, the plan doesn't work, and Robotnik ends up stealing the powerful weapon
01:51instead.
01:53Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog comics can be pretty dark.
01:57In the Light Mobius arc, Sonic enters Eggman's old Tachyon Chamber in an attempt to go back
02:02in time and solve a problem endangering the people of Mobius.
02:06Instead, Sonic irrevocably alters the timeline, changing the future.
02:10His time travel undoes his marriage to Sally, leaving her in the hands of the corrupt King
02:14Shadow and erases his children, Sonia and Manic, from existence.
02:19Of course, he eventually reunites with his wife, Queen Sally, and the two start a new
02:24family in this altered timeline.
02:26So he gets another chance with a brand new version of the children he wiped off the face
02:30of the Earth.
02:31Yay?
02:33Okay, fine, we don't see any bodies on screen, but the electromagnetic pulse caused by Sonic
02:39in the live-action film wipes out the power of an entire city.
02:43There's no way it doesn't have consequences.
02:46Baby Nights ruined, interrupted chili dog cooking, and yes, probably more than a few
02:50deaths.
02:51Several online users have speculated about the death toll of the Blue Blur's blackout,
02:56with one industrious Reddit user calculating approximately how many babies Sonic's thoughtless
03:01actions might have killed.
03:03That's pretty grim.
03:04What is going on?
03:05Oh gosh, I think the power's out.
03:06You don't dare!
03:07The lights are out, the whole town is freaking out!
03:13Oh Tails, dear sweet Tails, you don't deserve anything this hedgehog has done to you.
03:18Sonic has always been a bit of a player, but in issue 155 of Archie's Sonic Comics, he
03:23takes his philandering ways too far.
03:26Sonic kisses Fiona Fox behind a bush, knowing that Tails has a crush on her.
03:31Tails catches him in the act and is rightfully devastated at this massive betrayal by someone
03:35he thought was a friend.
03:37It doesn't end there, either.
03:38Not only did Sonic break his friend's dear little heart, he also drove him to a life
03:43of crime.
03:44In issue 170, Tails' father is thrown in jail by the government, the very same monarchy
03:49that Sonic's family has been participating in for years.
03:52His crime?
03:53Attempting to bring democracy to the people and show them that monarchy is not the only
03:57way.
03:58When Sonic attempts to stop Tails from freeing his dad, Tails turns on Sonic.
04:03Tails makes it very clear during their confrontation that it was Sonic's mistreatment of him over
04:07the years that has caused him to build up a lingering sense of resentment, and finally
04:12snap.
04:13Poor sweet Tails could only be pushed too far before he would break.
04:17Sonic kissed a human woman
04:18Sorry, it's just hard to talk about this and keep a level head.
04:21Ahem.
04:22Sega's 2006 Sonic the Hedgehog game has plenty of problems, with a critically reviled level
04:26design and one of the lowest meta scores in Sonic history, but its greatest sin is making
04:31us all look at Sonic the Hedgehog locking lips with a real human woman.
04:36Where is Amy Rose?
04:37Where is Sally?
04:38Nowhere to be found, as the audience is forced to watch Sonic's clunky romantic storyline
04:43with Princess Elise.
04:45At the story's climactic moment when all seems lost and Sonic lies dead on the ground, Princess
04:49Elise saves the day by… kissing a hedgehog.
04:53Granted, it's hard to blame this on Sonic since he was dead at the time, but still,
04:58gross.
04:59And if anything, that's even worse, necrophilia.
05:02In the Mobius 25 years later storyline of the Archie comics, Sonic marries Princess
05:07Sally and becomes king of an entire planet.
05:11Heavy is the hedgehog head that wears the crown, and it quickly becomes apparent that
05:14Sonic is not up to the task.
05:17Does he use his newfound authority to provide the people with unlimited chili dogs?
05:21Or, you know, healthcare?
05:22No, he just mopes around and complains about being bored.
05:26Sally attributes his bad attitude to a combination of a midlife crisis and a lack of experience
05:30in politics.
05:31But the people of Mobius don't stop suffering just because Sonic's never taken a civics
05:36class in his life.
05:38Sure, it was an alternate universe version of his father, but that doesn't make it okay.
05:42In the Sonic Super Special issue 12 story, Zone Wars Giant Robotno, Sonic is teleported
05:48to an alternate reality, or Zone, in order to help combat a serious threat.
05:53In this Zone, everything Sonic knows to be true is turned on its head.
05:56Here, Sonic partners with an alternate good version of Dr. Robotnik, named Dr. J. Kintobor,
06:02in order to help save the people of Kintopolis.
06:04The people are under siege by mutated versions of Sonic's friends and family, created when
06:09the city attempted to harness the power of a split Chaos Emerald and tested it on the
06:13population of Knothole Island.
06:15Armed with a massive mech called the Giant Robotno, Sonic must take out each of his loved
06:20ones.
06:21While battling this Zone's version of his father, Jules the Hedgehog, Sonic rips the
06:25Chaos Emerald out of his chest and renders his own dad a lifeless husk.
06:30In this case, it's less about the terrible thing that Sonic did and more about the good
06:34thing he chooses not to do.
06:36According to the 2020 live-action film, a single one of Sonic's quills possesses nearly
06:41limitless energy.
06:42When Dr. Robotnik analyzes one of the quills, he finds enough electrical energy to power
06:47a hovercraft and match Sonic's formerly unbeatable racing speed.
06:51The average Hedgehog is between 3,000 and 5,000 quills, and just one was enough for
06:57all of that.
06:58Sonic can outrun any potential threat, so he's not exactly using his quills to protect
07:03himself from predators.
07:04Why can't he spare a few hundred quills to power a handful of major cities, or even the
07:09entire world?
07:10Every day, Sonic wakes up with a solution to clean, sustainable energy growing out of
07:14his head, but chooses not to share it.
07:18Sonic and Amy Rhodes have had an on-and-off romance since she was first introduced to
07:21the series.
07:22Amy decided she was Sonic's girlfriend and then began pursuing a relationship with him
07:26whether he liked it or not.
07:28In one Sonic X episode, A Date to Forget, Sonic potentially damages their relationship
07:33by standing up Amy.
07:34After making plans with both Amy and Sam Speed, Sonic flakes out on both of them.
07:39Amy instead goes on a date with Sam Speed, which leads Amy to finally understand that
07:44Sonic helps others with his abilities, and that running fast is, well, fun.
07:49It all worked out in the end, but it's one of Sonic's bigger missteps with poor old Amy
07:53Rhodes.
07:54In the live-action film, Longclaw the Owl is Sonic's primary guardian on his home planet.
08:05She is the last of her kind, a noble race of owl warriors who protect the world from
08:10danger.
08:11She taught Sonic everything he knows.
08:13When a gang of echidnas chase Sonic down in an attempt to steal his power, Longclaw gives
08:17him a bag of his iconic rings, which he can use to travel between worlds.
08:21As she sends him to Earth, she tells Sonic to never stop running, and stays behind to
08:26fight the echidnas.
08:28Then once he gets to Earth, Sonic immediately stops running.
08:31He stays in the first place he lands, and remains there for ten years.
08:35If he was going to immediately disobey Longclaw's instructions, he could have used one of those
08:39rings to go back for the only family he's ever known.
08:42But Sonic never goes back for Longclaw.
08:44He can't even honor her last request.
08:47Sonic spends the majority of his 2020 film directly and indirectly causing millions of
08:52dollars in property damage.
08:54Not even counting the massive power outage he triggers, he's responsible for car wrecks,
08:58destroyed buildings, and blocks and blocks of decimated city streets.
09:02His chase battle with Dr. Robotnik leaves a trail of destruction in his wake through
09:06multiple cities.
09:08He should be sued by Green Hills, not shielded from all responsibility with a government
09:12cover-up.
09:13Sure, it makes for an entertaining movie, but think of the casualties.
09:16Their infrastructure is likely permanently damaged, all because this wisecracking rodent
09:21had to get himself into hijinks.
09:23Not only that, but he gets an innocent man labeled a domestic terrorist by pulling him
09:27into the crossfire.
09:28Sure, Tom is eventually cleared of that accusation, but false news reports don't just disappear
09:33from the public consciousness.
09:35Tom is likely going to be followed by the consequences of Sonic's carelessness for the
09:39rest of his life.
09:41In some ways, the short-lived animated TV series Sonic Underground felt like a fan-fiction
09:46fever dream.
09:47It featured Sonic, along with his brother and sister, as they journeyed to find their
09:50long-lost mother, the Queen.
09:52The trio have magical amulets that allow them to transform into various musical instruments,
09:57and they also use musical instruments as weapons.
10:00Considering the strange premise of the show, it makes perfect sense that some wild things
10:04happened.
10:05Once, Sonic and his siblings even took the joy of music from an entire planet.
10:09In the episode, Six is a Crowd, Sonic, Manic, and Sonia went to an alternate dimension where
10:15the three hedgehog siblings were bad guys, and Dr. Robotnik was a celebrated hero.
10:20In that universe, a corrupt Sonic ruled over the land with an iron paw, acting so evil
10:25that he even took away the planet's ability to create music.
10:28The good triplets eventually cured the world's ills with a song, but that doesn't change
10:33the fact that somewhere, there's a version of Sonic who wants to end the music forever.
10:38Is this maybe the worst thing Sonic has ever done?
10:41In the 2020 live-action film, Sonic has the unmitigated gall to fart up a perfectly good
10:46hotel room with chili dog gas, and then laugh about it.
10:49That's awful.
10:50What did you eat?
10:51I think it's called a chili dog?
10:55Right to the face of a man whose life he uprooted and whose sense of reality he changed forever.
11:00Not only is it a party foul and a breach of hotel room etiquette, it's practically chemical
11:05warfare.
11:08It's awful.
