00:00TOAD'S BRIGHT IDEA
00:05Random Docks is one of the busiest places on the island of Sodor.
00:10But there was one engine at the docks with nothing to do.
00:15Gator was going to work in a land far away, but his ship was delayed.
00:21I'm not just a container, you know, Salty. I'm an engine. I like to be busy.
00:27But you must be at the ready were your ship to come in.
00:32Just because I don't look like other engines, that's no reason not to give me something useful to do.
00:39Nobody is worried about the way that you look.
00:43Oh, no. Remember what happened when I first arrived? Everyone thought I was a monster.
00:49But the engines hadn't seen you before. They were just a bit surprised by your appearance.
01:05Gator was still waiting for his ship when the dock manager came by.
01:10Oliver was due to bring some trucks here for shipping, but he's broken down on Duck's branch line.
01:17Do you think you can collect the trucks and be back by first light?
01:22No problem, sir.
01:24Great! But don't forget...
01:26Back before first light, I know.
01:34Gator was so excited to be busy and really useful...
01:39...that he didn't even notice when his lamp went out.
01:48Oh!
01:50Who are you?
01:52I'm Gator, and there's no need to shout. I'm not a monster.
01:57I know that. I just couldn't see you coming. Where's your light?
02:02Where's my what? Oh, my lamp. It... it must have gone out.
02:09I didn't realise. Sorry, Oliver.
02:14His driver lit his lamp again, and Gator went to turn around on the loop to collect the trucks.
02:32Good evening, Mr Gator, sir. My name's Toad, and I'll be your brake van this evening.
02:39Very nice to meet you, Toad.
02:57Goodbye, Oliver.
02:59See you later, Gator. In a while, um, Toad.
03:04Bye, Mr Oliver. We'll deliver your trucks, we will. Don't worry.
03:10Gator and Toad had hardly gone very far when Gator's lamp went out again.
03:15Oh, no!
03:17What is it, Mr Gator? Is everything all right?
03:20Everything's fine, Toad. It's just my lamp. It's gone out again.
03:25Your lamp's gone out? Then you must stop and relight it.
03:30It's dangerous to cross the island at night without a light.
03:34Yes, I know. But I think there's something wrong with that lamp. It won't stay lit.
03:42Gator stopped near a junction to light his lamp again.
03:46While he was waiting, James came along with the flying kipper.
03:52Hello!
03:54Ah!
03:57Not again!
04:03Now we're making progress, Mr Gator. We'll soon be at the docks.
04:09Gator! Where's your lamp?
04:13Mr Gator, is your lamp out again?
04:17Mr Gator, is your lamp out again?
04:20Yes. I mean, no.
04:22Oh, okay. Yes. But it doesn't matter.
04:26I'm sorry to contradict you, Mr Gator, but it does matter. You need to stop.
04:32I can't keep stopping. I have to get back to the docks before morning.
04:37Really, sir. I must insist that you stop and light your lamp.
04:43Mr Gator, please! We are approaching a junction.
04:48This is where the trucks come on from the gravel pits. There may be gravel on the tracks.
04:54Slow down!
04:57Right. That's it.
05:01Mr Gator, if you don't stop, then you'll give me a wheel flat.
05:08Thank goodness. You've seen the light at last.
05:12Now, I'm not going any further unless you relight your lamp.
05:18Fine. Then I'll go without you.
05:21What?
05:23It's dangerous to go without a brake van, you know.
05:27I know.
05:29But it might be quicker and quieter, too.
05:33Gator left Toad behind and hurried on towards the junction.
05:38Then there was trouble.
05:42Oh, no! Gravel!
05:53Toad was still fuming when he heard something coming back along the tracks.
05:59Hello? Who's that? Be careful! Brake van on the line!
06:04Sorry, Toad. You were right all along. About everything.
06:09I was only doing my job, Mr Gator.
06:12I just wanted to be really useful.
06:15And so did I. When engines go too fast to be safe, it's my job to slow them down.
06:22Especially when they don't have a lamp.
06:26I can't get my lamp lit, so it looks like we're going to be stuck here until morning.
06:32Oh, perhaps I'm not a very useful engine after all.
06:37And that's when Toad had a very bright idea.
06:41Mr Gator, I've got two lamps.
06:44Go on.
06:46How about I lend you one of my lamps, so you can see what's going on?
06:51How about I lend you one of my lamps, so you can see the way?
06:56And show other engines you're approaching.
06:59So that's just what they did.
07:02The driver changed the lens from red to white,
07:06and Gator pulled Oliver's trucks all the way to the docks without any further trouble.
07:15Well done, Gator. You're just in time.
07:19You had me worried there for a while.
07:21I had a little trouble with my lamp, sir.
07:24It looks fine to me, Gator.
07:26That's not my lamp, sir. It belongs to Toad.
07:30He suggested I borrow it as mine wasn't working.
07:33Is that so? Well done, Toad.
07:44I'll be sad to see you go when your ship comes in, Mr Gator.
07:49Oh, it won't be for a while yet, Toad.
07:53I'm sorry for getting cross.
07:55I was fed up with people being surprised by my appearance and mistaking me for a monster.
08:02You know, Toad, you're the only person I can trust.
08:07I was surprised by my appearance and mistaking me for a monster.
08:12You know, Toad, you're the only one I've met on the whole island who wasn't scared when they first saw me.
08:20Actually, I was a bit startled when I first saw you, Mr Gator.
08:25But very little really scares me, sir.
08:30Oh!
08:37Hahahahahahahaha!
