00:00Hi, welcome back to my channel, in this video, I will explain the ending of The First Omen,
00:04so let's begin, please be aware the video contains spoilers, viewer discretion advised.
00:10The First Omen is a 2024 American supernatural horror film directed by R. Gosha Stevenson,
00:15who co-wrote the screenplay with Tim Smith and Keith Thomas from a story by Ben Jacobi.
00:19It is a prequel to The Omen, 1976, and the sixth film in The Omen franchise.
00:25The film follows a young woman who goes to Rome to become a nun but begins to question
00:28her faith after encountering a terrifying darkness that aims to spawn an evil incarnate.
00:33As the movie begins, the religious motif is addressed at once through choric songs, tolling
00:37bells playing in the background as we see a young Father Brennan, an older version of
00:41whom appears in the first movie, hearing the confession of a veteran priest, Father Harris,
00:45who mentions an ominous childbirth he had witnessed.
00:48According to Harris's account, a volunteer was chosen to be impregnated by the biblically
00:52beast, the Fallen One, which resulted in the birth of a girl child named Shanna.
00:57Harris gives Brennan a picture of the child, accompanied by other priests, Spoleto from
01:01the first movie is one of them, and nuns, and describes the child, who has possibly
01:05grown up to be a teenager now, as the harbinger of evil.
01:08A guilt-ridden Father Harris avoids explaining further as the horrifying memories of the
01:12past continue to torment him, and all of a sudden, he meets a vicious accident in the
01:16churchyard that mutilates part of his head, as if in a form of divine punishment.
01:20Harris's meaningful wince as a reaction carries a vile foreboding, which sets up the tone
01:24for the rest of the movie.
01:26The scene shifts to Rome in 1971, as we see Cardinal Lawrence welcoming Margaret Dyma,
01:31an American novitiate who will be taking the veil as a sister in the all-girl Vizzardelli
01:35Orphanage the Cardinal runs.
01:37As an orphan herself, Margaret grew up in missionary orphanages and had a troubled childhood,
01:42as she often found herself plagued by troubling visions.
01:45Due to this, Margaret had been unfairly disciplined for a certain time, until a visiting Cardinal
01:49Lawrence showed her kindness, allowing her to overcome the childhood trauma and fear.
01:54At Vizzardelli Orphanage, Margaret meets the abbess sister Sylva, and as she shows
01:58Margaret around the orphanage premises, they come across a strange-behaving sister Angelica.
02:02Later, as Sylva leaves for a moment, Margaret meets a teenage orphan girl, Carlita, who
02:07is seemingly isolated from the rest of the kids.
02:10Margaret is impressed by the unique, borderline creepy, imagination Carlita's drawings capture
02:14and wants to befriend her, but the girl appears to be hostile and awkward.
02:19Margaret is shocked to learn that Carlita gets confined to a solitary room as a form
02:22of punishment for her demeanor.
02:24Returning to her quarters, Margaret finds herself momentarily haunted by childhood
02:28trauma before meeting with her roommate and fellow novitiate Illuz.
02:32Margaret quickly befriends an outgoing, flamboyant Luz, perhaps because her own cloistered upbringing
02:37has never allowed her to have a taste of life outside the shackles of missionary orphanages.
02:42Before taking the veil and becoming a sister, Luz wants to live the last days of her freedom
02:46in the best way possible, and she tries to instill the same spirit in Margaret as well.
02:50Luz takes Margaret to a nightclub, where, after a bout of drinking and dancing, Margaret
02:54gets intimate with a certain Paolo.
02:57The next day, Margaret finds herself back in her quarters, where Luz carried her after
03:00she passed out previously.
03:03At the orphanage, Margaret tries to befriend Carlita as she sympathizes with her due to
03:06having a common experience as a troubled child herself, and eventually learns that Carlita
03:11is often haunted by ominous visions as well.
03:13However, Margaret herself seemingly hasn't recovered from her past experiences, as while
03:18witnessing childbirth, she starts hallucinating demonic influences, and once again, she passes
03:23out.
03:24During city sightseeing, Margaret is visited by Father Brennan, who warns her about Shanna
03:28Carlita, mentioning her presence will result in evil occurrences around the orphanage.
03:32He also mentions that he knows that she is an outsider and instructs her not to believe
03:36anyone at the orphanage.
03:38Brennan provides his address to Margaret and asks her to visit to learn the whole story.
03:42Did Margaret find Carlita's birth records?
03:45Later, Margaret observes Sister Angelica acting strangely around Carlita and gets taken
03:49aback after seeing a sketch the duo has made.
03:52As she expresses her annoyance, Angelica displays even stranger behavior and leaves the place.
03:58Margaret tries to associate Carlita with the rest of the children, and while doing so,
04:01they get abruptly interrupted moments later by a horrendous sight.
04:05Sister Angelica immolates and hangs herself from atop the orphanage building after uttering
04:09that it's all for her, and the scene is a near-exact recreation of Damien's first
04:13nanny's suicide in the omen, 1976.
04:16The incident shakes Margaret to her core, and she decides to go to Father Brennan to
04:20seek answers.
04:21Brennan states that he was formerly a member of the orphanage before getting excommunicated
04:25after learning something terrible.
04:27He informs her that the orphanage is part of an all-powerful secret sect of the Roman
04:31Catholic Church, which has historically maintained the power of faith through abhorrent, blasphemous
04:35means for thousands of years.
04:37In an age where scientific advancements, the post-World War II crisis, and the overall
04:41geopolitical situation have turned a new generation away from faith, the secret sect
04:45is afraid of losing power over the masses and religion fading into obscurity.
04:50Which is why they have been engaged in despicable arrangements to ensure the birth of the Antichrist
04:54by impregnating women with Satan, manifested as a demonic jackal-like beast on the mortal
04:58plane.
04:59The prophesied Antichrist is said to be a male child, which the sect believes will take
05:03birth if Satan mates with one of its offspring, whom the sect has tried to breed through malevolent
05:07means.
05:08The sect aims to induce just enough fear and darkness through the Antichrist so that the
05:12church once again regains its dominance over the minds of people.
05:16Brennan believes Shanna Carlita is the only surviving child of Satan, and in due time,
05:20the sect will use her to bear the Antichrist, who will bring hell upon earth.
05:24Margaret shrugs off Brennan's concerns by terming him a lunatic, and she prepares to
05:27leave.
05:28However, before she departs, Brennan asks her to verify his words on her own by seeking
05:33out Carlita's birth records, which are stashed away in the basement of the orphanage, and
05:37looking for the mark of the evil, 666, inscribed somewhere on her body.
05:42Margaret doesn't believe in Brennan's claims but still seems curious to learn about Carlita's
05:45birth history, and she asks the only person in the orphanage she somewhat trusts, Father
05:49Gabriel.
05:51Failing to find any information from him, Margaret questions Carlita, who momentarily
05:55gets dejected after Margaret implies her experiences of ominous visions as tricks of the mind.
06:00Margaret's attempts to learn more about Carlita are frowned upon by Silva and the other sisters
06:04of the orphanage.
06:06During a riot, when Margaret gets caught up in the crowd, she experiences vivid hallucinations
06:10of getting assaulted by demonic entities, which are witnessed by Sister Silva, and she
06:14starts questioning Margaret's state of mind.
06:17Silva later summons Margaret to let her know that the authorities have decided to delay
06:20her pledging ceremony as she hasn't recovered mentally and asks her to keep her distance
06:24from Carlita.
06:25An anguished Margaret lashes out and blames the authorities for Carlita's predicament
06:29as a troubled child.
06:30Later, Margaret spots Paolo on the streets and finds it offensive to see him avoiding
06:35her, getting scared at her sight.
06:37Margaret pursues him, and Paolo cryptically asks her to seek the mark, before getting
06:41involved in a gnarly car accident.
06:43In an effort to save him, Margaret accidentally severs his body in two and gets horrified
06:48at the sight as Paolo breathes his last.
06:51During Luz's pledge ceremony, Margaret sneaks off and finds an entry to the orphanage basement
06:55through a secret door in Silva's office.
06:58Margaret finds out about fourteen files on girls named Shanna, each of whom was bred
07:01as Satan's offspring, and almost all of them perished as grotesque, disfigured abominations.
07:07One of them survived, whom the orphanage reared up, and a terrified Margaret decides to take
07:11the information back to Brennan.
07:13However, she gets caught by Silva and the rest of the veteran sisters, who drag her
07:17away to solitary confinement.
07:20Before getting locked up, Margaret notices the A666 mark inside Carlita's mouth, which
07:25confirms Brennan's suspicion.
07:27Did Margaret stop the Antichrist's birth?
07:30In captivity, Margaret sees horrifying visions of a burned-up sister Angelica, and later,
07:34Father Gabriel rescues her from confinement.
07:37As Gabriel takes the files along with him and takes Margaret to Brennan, he reveals
07:41that he was formerly informed by Brennan about the situation, but like Margaret herself,
07:45he too disbelieved his words.
07:47Upon reaching Brennan's quarters, the trio starts looking into the files, and Margaret
07:51pleads with Brennan to help Carlita.
07:54He states that their only way forward has to be to expose the sect and bring their crimes
07:57to light, as any attempt to rescue Carlita will inevitably result in their capture.
08:02A disappointed Margaret continues to look into the files for a possible means to help
08:06Carlita and notices that Brennan's picture of the baby shows the ominous mark of evil
08:09on the head, which is not where Carlita's mark appeared.
08:12The surviving child's picture in the files doesn't match Brennan's picture as well,
08:16which signifies that there was another surviving child of Satan.
08:20Margaret's suspicion is confirmed as Shanna V turns out to be another survivor, and it
08:23turns out Brennan's picture was taken from her file.
08:27A terrible revelation hits Margaret as Paolo's last words come to her mind, and she realizes
08:31that it is she who is another survivor.
08:34In a flash, Margaret sees a hidden memory where she was forced into getting impregnated
08:37by the demonic beast, and the incident was witnessed by Paolo, who was a member of the
08:41sect as well.
08:43Carlita was a fail-safe for the orphanage, while the true victim was Margaret herself
08:46all along, who was groomed to become the mother of the Antichrist.
08:50Brennan confirms Margaret's suspicion by identifying the mark on her head, and upon her request,
08:55he offers to abort whatever might be still inside her womb.
08:58As Brennan, Gabriel, and Margaret are driven to a doctor, their car meets a ghastly accident,
09:03and Margaret comes out unscathed.
09:05Like a possessed woman, she starts viciously convulsing like an animal, within a moment's
09:09notice, Margaret's womb inflates, and her water breaks.
09:13The physical and mental stress causes Margaret to lose her consciousness, and upon waking
09:17up, she finds all the members of the orphanage, including Silva, Cardinal Lawrence, and Luz,
09:22surrounding her in a subterranean catacomb.
09:24Lawrence reassures Margaret, stating that she is doing the Lord's work and that he has
09:28protected her all through her life for this moment.
09:31A hapless Margaret pleads for help, but her cries go unnoticed as she is operated on while
09:35being strapped to a pedestal.
09:37The sect members wait in anticipation as Margaret gives birth to a girl and the prophesied Antichrist,
09:42a boy child.
09:43As the birth of evil is celebrated, Margaret prepares for a last-ditch attempt to undo
09:47their vile machination as she stabs Lawrence to death and nearly stabs her son as well.
09:52However, Margaret fails to do so, prompting Silva to snatch the boy off of her and Luz
09:56to stab Margaret.
09:58The orphanage members leave the catacombs, leaving Margaret and her girl child behind,
10:02and set the place on fire to destroy all the evidence.
10:05However, Carlita, who witnessed the events unfold secretly, arrives at the last moment
10:10to rescue Margaret and the girl child and take them outside to safety.
10:14Luz and Silva are entrusted to carry the child to the United States Ambassador in Rome, Robert
10:18Thorn, and orchestrate the death of his newborn to ensure the adoption of the Antichrist by
10:22his family.
10:24The boy is destined to use the power and privilege of the family to spread darkness all over
10:28the world, as we know, this begins to take place during the events of the Omen, 1976.
10:34During the first Omen's ending, Margaret, her daughter, and Carlita are revealed to
10:37be living in a secluded establishment in the wilderness, and they have moved on from the
10:41horrors of the past.
10:43Father Brennan makes a visit to inform Margaret that the sect has learned about their survival,
10:47and they will try to hunt them down as Margaret's daughter might play an integral role in stopping
10:50the havoc the Antichrist will wreak in the near future.
10:53Brennan mentions that the Antichrist, Margaret's son, is known as Damien, establishing the
10:58connection to the events of the Omen movie franchise.
11:01However, the survival of Margaret and her daughter turned out to be a retcon in the
11:05original series, where no mention of their existence was made.
11:09This opens up the possibility of a continuation of the franchise in a different direction,
11:13as we might find the duo in a conflict with Damien, creating an alternate future from
11:17what the main series showcased.
