00:41Civil society groups have continued to pile pressure on President William Ruto to stop
00:45extrajudicial killings by security forces.
00:48The police reform working group, a coalition of human rights lobbyists, yesterday said
00:52it was concerned by the enforced disappearances and obituary arrests, despite Ruto's promise
00:57to end it.
00:58The government was not upholding commitment to stop the vice, the lobby said, but was
01:02going further in offending the rights of those arrested.
01:06The late Mombasa's cement-limited CEO Hasmukh Patel will be cremated on Sunday in Mombasa
01:12with President William Ruto expected to be in attendance, the Star has learned.
01:16This explains why the body of Patel was preserved at the Pandya Memorial Hospital morgue, unlike
01:20the Hindu traditions.
01:22According to Hindu death rituals, the body should remain at home until cremation, which
01:26is usually within 24 hours of the death.
01:29Sources close to the family hinted at the Star that there was a special request for
01:33the delay of the cremation, but they will not state why.
01:37One more body of a middle-aged man was on Thursday night found in El Nika in Bangla
01:41area, Tanah River County, a day after four people were killed.
01:45The decomposing body was found with arrow wounds, a clear indication that he died through
01:49the poisoned arrows.
01:50This brings the number of those killed to five in the last three days.
01:55The Shakahola massacre, which led to the deaths of over 400 people in Cliffie County,
02:00was as a result of police failure, a report on the probe into the tragedy says.
02:04The Commission on Administrative Justice, which probed the Shakahola tragedy, has blamed
02:08the police and state administrators for the deaths.
02:11A report by the commission said there was a dereliction of duty by the two agencies,
02:15which allowed the occurrence of the tragedy.
