00:00Rhett and Link, legends of YouTube.
00:03It's time to diagnose some of their health concerns
00:06they've had on camera.
00:07Let's get started.
00:08Pee-woop!
00:10We did not discuss beforehand how fast we were gonna run.
00:13And all I remember thinking was,
00:15as soon as we started running,
00:16wow, Link is really going for it.
00:18He is running as fast as he possibly can.
00:20I've gotta run, I'm gonna act like I'm filming Link
00:22while he's running.
00:23Next thing I know, Link is no longer beside me.
00:26Oh!
00:28He fell on his scaphoid.
00:29At least that's what it looked like.
00:30Okay, here, here's where I make the diagnosis.
00:33Good, good step, good step, good step.
00:38Oh, jagged step.
00:39So he hit the bump, he falls on a left outstretched hand,
00:43then he rolls, he does a tuck and roll,
00:45which is actually good.
00:46The tuck and roll actually is a momentum thing,
00:48so that's something they teach actually in parkour.
00:50He's gonna have road rash on his right arm,
00:53but his left wrist is likely or potentially broken.
00:56I think I broke my elbow.
00:58Do you think it's really broken?
01:00No, I just, I kind of jammed it.
01:02You messed up your side pretty good too, right?
01:04Look, there's a road rash on his arm, on his right side.
01:06Let me see if you can, yeah, it's not broken.
01:08Yeah, it's just brain, it just jammed it.
01:10How does he, Nico, it's not broken,
01:12with the best medical advice.
01:14It's honestly the equivalent of watching
01:15some of these health gurus on YouTube be like,
01:17you have a headache?
01:18Take some salt shit.
01:19Like, wait, what?
01:21You didn't even examine me, how do you know that's why?
01:23Just take it.
01:24Okay, Rhett is going first,
01:25and Chase is gonna be behind the pain wall,
01:27inflicting pain on a specific part of his body.
01:29Now, I'm gonna be watching only his face react to the pain,
01:33and then I'll say where I felt the sensation
01:35to see if it matches up.
01:36How does that make sense?
01:37If it does, I get a point.
01:39At the end of this whole thing,
01:40this very scientific study,
01:42we'll know who is the better friend
01:43by who has the most points.
01:45You ready to get started?
01:46Is this like testing their friendship telekinesis?
01:49Give him the pain!
01:52It's a whip?
01:53Oh.
01:54Don't do that.
01:55Ooh.
01:56Dang.
01:57Dang!
01:58No!
01:59Oh.
02:01Oh!
02:03That's a real whip, that's not even a play whip!
02:06Right in there, just a little tickle,
02:08just a little whippy whip on the back left calf.
02:12Really?
02:13Yeah.
02:14It was my booty.
02:16Yeah, you're not gonna be able to tell.
02:19If I go second.
02:20No way, they're tasing one another?
02:22No, come on, we know that that's not good.
02:24I wish they would do this with themselves on the floor
02:26because it could actually paralyze
02:27and stun your muscles temporarily.
02:29So one of the biggest dangers of tasers
02:31is hitting your head on the floor from a fall.
02:35Oh, that looks so bad.
02:37See, I told you he was gonna fall.
02:39Did that hurt?
02:40Yeah, it hurt like crazy!
02:41Most tasers these days, to have a cardiac issue,
02:45unless you're already predisposed to a cardiac issue,
02:48are very rarely causing cardiac injury.
02:51They're more so causing muscular injury
02:53or the injury from the fall.
02:55Or skin injury.
02:55My front tire, I think it just took a really hard,
03:00boom, right turn, right when it hit this divot, wham!
03:06And then it just tossed me.
03:09I would say it slammed me more than tossed me.
03:11Over the right side of the bike,
03:14my forward momentum took me over,
03:16and it happened so fast that I did not have time
03:20to get my hand, my right hand off the handlebar.
03:24Isn't it amazing how humans have this natural reaction
03:27to always protect themselves with non-vital structures?
03:31Like when we fall, no matter what, we put our hands out.
03:33That's like automatic.
03:34You're not even thinking about it.
03:35I was diving, and my right shoulder was-
03:40The first thing you did.
03:41Does he have a clavicular injury?
03:43And so the first thing that hit was the top of my right.
03:48Feels like a clavicle injury.
03:49Collarbone.
03:51The clavicle is broken right towards the end of it.
03:55So remember, when we talk about injuries
03:58and try to understand what the injuries are,
04:00the way he explained it was very good
04:01because I was able to deduct that it's a clavicle injury
04:03without knowing this whole story.
04:05And that's because the mechanism of injury
04:06is largely what's allowing us as doctors
04:09to understand what's happening.
04:11Okay, we are here in Santa Monica at the cryo zone
04:14to test out the hottest new trend of cryotherapy.
04:18Now that I've turned 40,
04:20I'm looking for anything to give me a reason to keep going.
04:22Maybe this'll be it.
04:24That's sad.
04:25That's not sad.
04:26That's actually everyone who's aging.
04:28Everyone wants to turn back the clock.
04:29We're all seeking the fountain of youth.
04:31And I promise cryotherapy isn't the answer.
04:33The claims that they make at these cryotherapy centers
04:36are absolutely ridiculous.
04:37None of it's backed up by evidence.
04:39So there will be a tendency for the machines
04:41to lower the blood pressure.
04:43So we are checking for very low blood pressure right now.
04:46141 over 75.
04:48So it's a little high,
04:49but that's good.
04:50It's not good.
04:51And it's also incorrect
04:53because you took it as he's talking.
04:55He just walked in.
04:56He hasn't sat for five minutes.
04:57In fact, taking blood pressure the incorrect way
05:00leads to so many false diagnoses of hypertension.
05:03You need to know that
05:04when you're performing a blood pressure check,
05:06just because you have a high reading
05:07doesn't mean the person automatically
05:09is diagnosed with hypertension.
05:10It requires a little bit more than that.
05:11So there is a waiver.
05:13I'll go over a few of those.
05:14There is a waiver.
05:15If you die, ain't our fault.
05:17It'll take about 30 seconds
05:18to reach the temperature it wants you to climb in at.
05:21What temperature is that?
05:22Negative 60 degrees.
05:23Negative 60 degrees?
05:24Just about when you're entering.
05:25Yeah.
05:26And then what does it get down to?
05:27It'll get down to negative 167 for your first time.
05:30How is that possible?
05:30And how is that safe?
05:31The thing is you're going into this
05:33minus 167 degree chamber.
05:36Don't you want to know why you're going into this chamber?
05:39We tested it and we saw that it may help
05:42with perception of pain,
05:44but that it doesn't really change anything
05:46about the function of the injuries.
05:49Then we tried to see,
05:50does it help with conditions of arthritis?
05:53It performs the same as putting
05:54like an ice pack on your arm.
05:56So why are you paying hundreds of dollars
05:58for a session like this and going into such extremes,
06:00putting your body into an extreme situation?
06:02It's an extreme that is largely unnecessary.
06:06I don't feel like I should be in charge of getting in.
06:08You're in now, buddy.
06:10The FDA actually put out a warning saying
06:13there is nothing that this is medically useful for.
06:17Like there are no FDA approved uses for this thing.
06:19And it doesn't mean that not everything
06:21that doesn't have an FDA approved use doesn't work,
06:24but this thing especially doesn't work.
06:27Because they make it sound like it's a medical device.
06:29Just the beginning,
06:29it'll take about 90 seconds to reach its peak.
06:32And I don't know if you noticed,
06:33the hype around cryotherapy has really dropped
06:36and it has changed to cold water plunges.
06:38Because what these researchers figured out
06:41was that you don't need to get the benefits of cold
06:44at minus 167 when your body runs at 98.6.
06:48You can get the same benefits going to 40 degree bath.
06:52And then they realized they can't make money
06:54telling you that.
06:55So then they start selling you the bath
06:56as if their plunge thing is cooler than your actual bathtub.
07:01Just run the cool water.
07:03Four, three, two, and you are all done.
07:07Great job.
07:09My nipples have never been this hard.
07:11Your belly's turning red too.
07:13Yeah, the reason why you get flushed
07:14after exposure to cold,
07:15the same thing happens when you put on an ice pack,
07:17is that your body goes to rewarm the area.
07:20So that flushing is normal.
07:21Like initially, we thought the reason to ice a sprain
07:24was to decrease the amount of blood flow going to the area,
07:26which would decrease edema, decrease swelling.
07:28And then we realized when you remove the ice pack,
07:31even more blood goes to that area.
07:33Maybe the benefit was that more blood was going to the area,
07:36not the fact that we shunted blood away for 15 minutes.
07:39In fact, there is debate in the medical community
07:41if icing is even valuable after a sprain.
07:45I feel no pain at all.
07:47I didn't feel any pain before I got in there either.
07:51They should have just edited that out.
07:52I guarantee you this place that he's going to
07:54is gonna use that as a reel for their promo
07:56and say, I don't feel any pain at all afterwards.
07:58I don't even feel like I ever need to wear clothes again.
08:00Not appropriate.
08:01What this has done for me is it's shown me
08:02that the only thing a human needs is skin.
08:05We don't need clothes.
08:07We can just be people with skin.
08:08Skin is clothes.
08:10Skin is clothes.
08:12Should be a tagline on one of their merch.
08:15What is happening?
08:16What am I watching?
08:20Is he just dropping Orbeez on his face?
08:22That's the thing?
08:26I was about to say,
08:27I'm worried about one of those going in his mouth.
08:28Are they edible?
08:29What's in an Orbee?
08:31My ear, my earphone.
08:33Cut the music!
08:34Cut the music!
08:35Cut the music!
08:36I can picture one of these gentlemen
08:38ending up in my office and being like,
08:41I got something in my ear.
08:41I'm like, oh, did you lose a piece of the Q-tip in there?
08:43Cause you shouldn't have been using that.
08:44And they're like, nah, I got an Orbee.
08:46I got an Orbee in my left ear!
08:50I can't get it out!
08:52Now don't push on this, bro.
08:53Suck gently now.
08:54Oh, this is so awkward.
08:57Oh, why did you blow?
08:59I didn't blow.
09:00Did you blow?
09:01No, I sucked, man.
09:02You know what's funny?
09:03There's like this little snot snucker,
09:05that snot sucker that we use for pediatric patients
09:08that the mom can use.
09:09And it actually filters the snot
09:10or something or catches the snot.
09:12Here's a video of it, if you haven't seen it.
09:14You know what?
09:15I actually, I do think it came out.
09:20But the problem is they're getting all this water
09:22and fluid inside the ear.
09:23If they don't get it out well,
09:24you could develop something known as otitis externa,
09:26also known as swimmer's ear,
09:27where you get a nasty infection of the canal inside your ear,
09:31which is very painful.
09:32Like if you press on this area or you pull on this,
09:35it's so painful that you really need treatment for it,
09:38which are usually antibacterial drops
09:41or a combination of antibacterial and steroidal drops.
09:43Not fun.
09:44And people get this obviously from swimming,
09:46but also from washing their hair, dyeing their hair,
09:49swimming in Orbeez.
09:50We are going to push our bodies as safely as possible
09:53to see which of us can pee the longest.
09:57It's time for,
09:58when we just can't ignore nature's call any longer,
10:01we'll finally know who can pee most on their donger.
10:05What?
10:05Caffeine is a diuretic,
10:07meaning it promotes water loss through the urine.
10:10I'll explain to you why coffee and sodas
10:13are not actually dehydrating.
10:15The chemical caffeine inside of them is a diuretic,
10:18but remember most of what's inside a can, a cup, a bottle,
10:22is water, it's fluid.
10:24So while you may be urinating more,
10:27you're also ingesting more fluids.
10:29The only time where this could become an issue
10:31is if you start taking caffeine pills
10:33where you're not also including fluid in there
10:35like you would with a cup of coffee.
10:37I already have to pee.
10:39And carbonated drinks, by the way,
10:41can be a trigger for bladder irritation.
10:44And there's certain lists of foods
10:45that I give to my patients who have a sensitive bladder
10:48as a form of potentially eliminating some of those foods,
10:51ideally to get their bladder under control.
10:54There are ways to trigger your bladder with certain foods
10:56and carbonated beverages are one of them.
10:58I really need to go, but I'm trying to, I'm pinching it.
11:01Oh gosh.
11:02Holding your pee for way too long
11:05could actually yield medical problems.
11:07I mean, obviously comes to mind a urinary tract infection,
11:10but you could also get in trouble
11:11with things like kidney stones,
11:13because when you don't have enough urine circulating,
11:16you can have urinary stasis,
11:17stretching out the bladder and causing damage to the bladder
11:20because the bladder is a muscle, it's a muscular organ.
11:23And as a result, you can cause damage to it.
11:25There's also pelvic floor muscles that work in sync,
11:28allowing you to empty your bladder.
11:30And if you hold it for too long,
11:32you can actually cause damage there.
11:36Oh.
11:38That was absolutely-
11:40Well, how long was that?
11:41That was two minutes, 56 seconds.
11:43That was-
11:44What? How long did he hold it?
11:45That's dangerous.
11:47Okay, so we wanted to see what happens
11:49when you drink those 400 milligrams of caffeine.
11:51That is the FDA okay daily amount.
11:53All in one-
11:54That's not the, see, that's the problem.
11:57People see like maximal amount,
11:58and they go, that's the okay amount.
12:00That's the max.
12:01So we don't say we recommend that amount.
12:04People go right to the max.
12:07How will that affect the human body?
12:08The human mind?
12:09I could tell you it's gonna cause palpitations,
12:11a feeling of anxiety, nervousness, fidgety, muscle aches,
12:15maybe a little delirium if you have enough.
12:17Now you may be thinking, I drink like
12:22at least five of those when I'm like
12:24going through my games of a night.
12:26What?
12:27When I'm gaming or whatever it is.
12:29Well, listen, you have a problem.
12:30Okay, man.
12:31You do have a problem.
12:32It's not good for you,
12:33especially if you drink it close to bedtime.
12:34And some people will drink that amount of caffeine
12:37and say, I can still fall asleep.
12:37Yeah, but you're not getting restful sleep.
12:38You're not going through the proper stages of sleep.
12:40Your memory's gonna suffer the next day.
12:42You're not gonna feel refreshed
12:43when you wake up in the morning.
12:44I feel like I'm accessing a different plane
12:47that's beyond all the Red Bull studies.
12:49Stevie, I would like you to think of a number
12:51between one and-
12:56334.
12:57100.
12:58Just, it's on the screen now.
13:01But we, we can't see that.
13:03For me, I was getting 71 or 17.
13:06It was, my number was-
13:07Are you kidding me?
13:09My number was three.
13:10Did you do something?
13:1171!
13:12I freaking told you!
13:13I got 71!
13:15Here's some of the craziest moments
13:17that went down on real live TV.
13:20Click here to check it out.
13:21And as always, stay happy and healthy.
