00:10A debate broke out online late last week and Ginger Zee opened up about a moment in parenting

00:16I struggle with.

00:17The Good Morning America meteorologist wrote honestly about the controversial parenting

00:22decision in a lengthy caption on Instagram on Friday, Aug. 30.

00:28Her commentary accompanied a photo of one of her young sons closely inspecting plastic

00:33prizes that kids can win at arcades by cashing in the tickets they earned for gameplay.

00:39Personally, I'm always avoiding single-use, trash plastic, but seeing my child experience

00:45the joy of choosing a trinket after playing at an arcade is nostalgic and I have to bite

00:50my tongue so I don't.

00:53Make him too deprived of the normal stuff, the mother of two explained.

00:57Zee, 43, then asked why normal activities for kids often involve so much plastic.

01:04Though she acknowledged that the kinds of toys available for kids to win at arcades

01:09need to be cheap for the business to make a profit.

01:12She wondered why affordable trinkets like crayons, mini pads or paper for notes, or

01:18even crafting items aren't swapped in.

01:20The plastic army men will soon be stuck in couch cushions and forgotten about, she predicted.

01:27The TV personality's conundrum was met with healthy debate amongst her Instagram followers,

01:33many of whom agreed with her perspective.

01:36Your struggle is shared by this parent, one person declared as another echoed, I feel

01:41this ginger.

01:43One Instagram user said they have the same personal conflict about these type of toys

01:48and expanded that conflict to include the kinds of plastic items that often wind up

01:53in the gift bags handed out at kids' birthday parties.

01:57There must be better options out there, they wrote.

02:00You're not alone.

02:01All I see is missing toys and trash cans when my kiddos pick out arcade trinkets, another

02:07person chimed in.

02:08But not everyone shared Zee's opinion.

02:11Got to let them be kids, one person argued, while another said Zee already does so many

02:16things for the environment and should let them enjoy it, adding her sons are only kids

02:22once.

02:23I don't think a lot of it is tradition, one Instagram user commented, before disagreeing

02:29with Zee's crayons pitch, writing, I don't think they would go for crayons.

02:34To them this is something different.

02:36All debate aside, Zee's husband, Ben Aaron, chimed in with another point that received

02:42more than 200 likes on his wife's post.

02:46Was it the plastic or the fact that 50 bucks got us three pencil erasers, he asked.
