Lollipop lady’s cat helps school children cross road

A lollipop lady who teams up with her pet cat to help children cross the road is gearing up for another new term with her moggie.

00:00Who's a handsome boy?

00:05Bandit first started coming to the crossing with me about eight months ago.

00:08He did it just once or twice and I didn't think much of it.

00:11He's an outdoor cat.

00:12He does what he wants.

00:13And then it became a bit more regular.

00:15And then it was every morning.

00:17And then it was every morning and every afternoon.

00:20And it started to get to a point where the children would say, well, is Bandit here?

00:23When he's not here.

00:24No, he's not come today.

00:25Oh, they'd be so disappointed.

00:27And then when he started coming every single day, they're so happy to see him and they

00:32all want to have a stroke with him.

00:34And he absolutely loves it.

00:36He loves the attention.

00:37He's really happy to see the children just as much as they are to see him.

00:41And he sits there for the whole crossing.

00:43And then when we're done and all the children are in school safely, he comes home with me.

00:48And he recognizes when it's time to go in the mornings.

00:50He sees me put my coat on and my hat on wherever he is in the house.

00:55And he'll come with me.

00:56Sometimes he's fast asleep and I'll put my head around the corner and I'll say, going

00:59lollipopping Bandit.

01:01And he's wide awake instantly.

01:03And he's out the house and ready to join me.

01:06And he'll follow me up and do his job.

01:09Bandit sits with me at the crossing.

01:11He knows not to get too close to the road.

01:13He lets the children cross safely and doesn't follow them into the road.

01:17And I think he's helping them learn their Green Cross code.

01:19He knows to sit at the side of the road and wait.

01:22Some of the children have even likened him to Street Cat Bob.

01:25They say it's not normal for a cat to do this.

01:28He's like a dog.

01:29And I said, no, this is just what some cats do.

01:32He's not quite as famous as Street Cat Bob, but there's hope yet.

01:40It's lovely having Bandit with me.

01:42It makes the best job in the world even better.
