00:00Come with us on a long weekend walk to see the views from Higger Tor in the Peak District.
00:06This walk is just over the border from South Yorkshire into Derbyshire but it's an easy
00:10and scenic 20 minute drive from Sheffield city centre.
00:13Head west out of the city through Ringinglow and you'll find a handy car park just off
00:17the walking route at Upper Burbage Bridge.
00:20Parking spots tend to fill up before 11 on a nice weekend day so get out early if you
00:24can or be prepared to pull up on the side of the main road.
00:28As soon as you get off the road and onto the footpath you can fully appreciate the
00:31stunning landscape with patches of rock, grass, plants and swathes of purple heather decorating
00:36the route.
00:37There are countless spots on and around Higger Tor to perch on the rocks and take it all
00:41in and lots of people were set up with picnics to enjoy the views.
00:45On the steeper side of the hill there are stone steps which make the path a little easier
00:49but you probably need to be relatively steady on your feet to navigate the less organised
00:53stones on the other side.
00:55There are options to carry on further than we did, down towards Hathersidge, cross Burbage
01:00Brook at a slightly easier point and to walk along a higher path but we decided to jump
01:04over the brook on the rocks just here and keep the walk down to about 4.5 miles.
01:09I was grateful for the sun on this day as it was a very open and windy walk which will
01:13be freezing come the autumn and winter.
01:16It's a popular spot not only for walkers but also for bouldering on the Burbage Rocks,
01:20cycling and even for horse riding.
01:23Overall this is a gorgeous spot out in the Peak District, perfect for a bright morning
01:27walk and with the option to shorten or lengthen the route around the Tor however suits you
01:31best, whether that means a challenging 3 hour hike or to bring it down to just a couple
01:36of miles.
