00:00As Jack Leiter, Rangers rookie pitcher, joining us now here on the fan and a good afternoon,
00:20sir.
00:21How are you?
00:22I'm good.
00:23How are you?
00:24We're doing great.
00:26What's it like taking on the Yankees yesterday?
00:29It was awesome.
00:32Mostly growing up in the New Jersey area and my dad playing for the Yankees, that's a dream
00:38of mine.
00:39Then playing against a former teammate and a really good friend of mine, Anthony Volpe.
00:45Having my cousin in the bullpen for the Yankees, there's just a lot of underlying stories that
00:49made it extra special, I would say.
00:52Okay, so speaking of dad, what did he have to say about your performance yesterday?
00:58I mean, he's a proud dad most of the time.
01:04Even the outings that I'm very much not happy about throughout my career, he understands
01:10how hard this game can be and he's definitely a proud dad.
01:15Now you mentioned your cousin and obviously your dad, your uncle.
01:20Growing up as a Leiter, is it assumed that you're going to be a pitcher if you play
01:26baseball?
01:27Do you consider other positions?
01:29How does that whole thing get sorted out?
01:31I mean, my dad wanted me to be a third baseman.
01:34I don't know exactly why, but that was kind of his dream for me.
01:39Obviously, he wanted me to play baseball, but it wasn't forced upon me or anything like
01:45that.
01:46Just growing up around the game, it's hard not to fall in love with it.
01:50That's what happened.
01:52I fell in love with it.
01:53I always wanted to be a pitcher.
01:57The early parts of high school, I wasn't sure if that was going to happen or if I was going
02:00to play a position in the field, but it just kind of worked out that I ended up a pitcher.
