00:20Hey, guys.
00:21I'm all right.
00:23How are you all?
00:24About the same.
00:25You know, doing my best to stay positive and optimistic here, just five and a half back.
00:29Do you think this thing can still be turned around on a 180, like happened last fall?
00:35Well, there's no doubt that when this team plays its best baseball, that we can compete
00:39with any team in the big leagues.
00:41Just unfortunately, we have not seen that consistently at the level that we were accustomed
00:45to seeing last year, and really at the level we expected this year.
00:48So I'm frustrated.
00:49I know the players are frustrated, Boach and the staff is frustrated.
00:54But there's still a lot of baseball left, and we happen to be in a division where we're
00:57not out of it.
00:58Stranger things have happened.
01:00We've got really just about two months of baseball left, and if we get hot here and
01:04play really good baseball from here to the end of the season, good things are ahead.
01:09But it's time to go, and I've said this before, and my hope is that now is the time.
01:13We've got a huge series this week, and hopefully it starts now.
01:17We've gotten to see a couple of the pieces already that you traded for last week.
01:21It's the first time I've gotten to talk with you since the deadline.
01:23How did it go overall?
01:25How do you feel about what went down, and was there anything maybe out there that you
01:28were hoping you could have gotten done, you just weren't able to make it happen?
01:33The deadline's interesting in that regard, because there are so many different aspects
01:38to it.
01:39It's very fluid, and your needs may not align with what the market allows you to do.
01:44And I think that was the case this year, is that we were targeting a bat, trying to find
01:48a way to upgrade our offense or solidify our offense against right-handed pitching especially,
01:53and that hitter just never really materialized on the market.
01:56That person wasn't out there, and the price that we were willing to pay wasn't within
02:01the consideration that we felt like we needed to give it to acquire an impact bat.
02:07So with that, we pivoted a little bit, tried to upgrade our bullpen, shorten games a little
02:12bit, take some pressure off our starters, and we were happy with what we were able to
02:16do.
02:17That said, we also recognized that our goals of adding a bat didn't pan out.
02:23But I think the best thing that we can do internally is get our guys performing offensively
02:29at the level that they're capable of, and if they do that, we feel really good about
02:33our team.
