00:00It was a cool summer's night on the island of Sodor. All the engines were very busy, and there were lots of jobs to do.
00:12Gordon pulled the express, and Percy took the mail. He delivered letters and parcels across the whole island.
00:23Thomas was delivering coal to the coaling plant. It was a very long journey and a very heavy train.
00:31Thomas worked all night puffing through the countryside.
00:37At last, Thomas had delivered all the coal. He was very tired.
00:45I'm puffed out, said Thomas. I wish I had some help delivering the coal.
00:51Pah, puffed Gordon. A really useful engine doesn't need help.
00:57Then, the Fat Controller arrived.
01:00I need an engine to run three specials for me, the Fat Controller said.
01:06I can do it, puffed Thomas. He was tired, but he wanted to prove he was a really useful engine.
01:13Very well, Thomas. You must take some chickens to the market, sheep to the farm, and the children to school.
01:20That's a very big job for a small engine, chuffed Gordon. You're bound to need some help.
01:26This made Thomas cross.
01:28Tank engines don't need help, snapped Thomas. We are really useful.
01:34And he puffed away.
01:37Chickens to market, sheep to the farm, children to school, Thomas puffed.
01:45First, Thomas collected the chickens.
01:59Next, Thomas puffed into the valley.
02:07All the sheep were waiting for him.
02:10Come on, Thomas panted to the sheep. I'll take you to the farm.
02:16Woof, woof, woof, woof, woof, woof.
02:33Finally, Thomas trundled into the station. He was very tired.
02:40The children's smiling faces made him feel happy.
02:45But his axles were aching.
02:48The children were all on board and Thomas puffed away.
02:56Thomas puffed up Gordon's hill.
03:02And through Henry's tunnel.
03:05It was a very long way. His pistons were pounding and his axles were aching, but Thomas kept puffing.
03:13Chickens to market, sheep to the farm, children to school, Thomas panted.
03:18Thomas was getting more and more tired. He started to get into a muddle.
03:24Sheep to market, children to farm, chickens to school, yawned Thomas.
03:30When Thomas arrived at the market, he was very muddled indeed.
03:35Please unload the sheep, said Thomas.
03:39He should have said chickens, but now the sheep were unloaded.
03:46Then, Emily arrived. Emily could see that Thomas was tired.
03:52Would you like some help, asked Emily.
03:55No, thank you, puffed Thomas. Tank engines don't need help.
03:59But Thomas did need help. He was worn out.
04:03At last, the sheep were unloaded.
04:08Thomas puffed away.
04:10Sheep to market, children to the farm, and chickens to school, yawned Thomas sleepily.
04:18When Thomas got to the farm, he told the children that it was their stop.
04:23So all the children got off at Farmer McColl's.
04:28Thomas was terribly tired.
04:39Finally, Thomas arrived at the school. Only the chickens were left.
04:47So the chickens were unloaded.
04:54And Thomas puffed back to the shed.
05:04The Fat Controller was in his office. He was getting lots of phone calls.
05:10The sheep had knocked over lots of market stalls.
05:15The children had seen all the farm animals.
05:20And the classroom was full of chickens.
05:26At last, Thomas puffed into Tidmouth's shed.
05:30He was looking forward to a nice long sleep.
05:34Then, the Fat Controller arrived.
05:37Thomas, you have caused confusion and delay, he said.
05:41The Fat Controller told Thomas what had happened.
05:46Thomas was upset.
05:48He was very tired, and now he had to go and do his jobs all over again.
05:54Don't worry, said the Fat Controller. All you need is some help.
05:58Gordon said a really useful engine never needs help, moaned Thomas.
06:03Ha! laughed Edward. I'm always helping Gordon up the hill.
06:07Gordon was very embarrassed.
06:09Percy and Edward, you are to help Thomas, the Fat Controller said.
06:13So, Thomas puffed away with his friends.
06:19Percy took the sheep from the market to the farm.
06:24Edward took the chickens from the school to the market.
06:29And Thomas collected the children.
06:32Sorry, Thomas puffed to the children. I didn't mean to take you to the wrong place.
06:37We don't mind, said the children. We had a great time.
06:41We had a grand day out seeing the animals and learning all about the farm.
06:49And that night, when Thomas finally went to sleep, he dreamt about sheep and chickens and children.
