00:00For the upcoming Senate elections in 2026, we'll see some of the biggest changes to the
00:05Welsh political landscape ever, both figuratively and physically.
00:11We'll see an additional 36 members voted in, bringing the total up to 96, there will be
00:15added parameters for candidates, and even the way we vote will change, with more of
00:19an emphasis on the party rather than the politicians.
00:23In terms of the physical landscape though, we'll see some of other massive changes, with
00:27the current 32 constituencies across Wales shrinking down to 16, with current areas combined
00:33into two.
00:34And naming those constituencies may bring some new words and phrases that we may not
00:38be fully familiar with.
00:40New names will be in Welsh where possible, so if hypothetically there was a Newport
00:44North constituency, we might see the name Casnewydd Gogledd instead.
00:49The Boundary Commission has said it wants to make new names simple, and Welsh language
00:53groups say that using Welsh names only is a positive move for the language.
