00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. fainted when he saw mountains erupt
00:06after an aerial inspection was carried out in Marikina and the province of Rizal.
00:11This is Kenneth Paciente's report.
00:17Following the aerial inspection of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
00:20in the areas most affected by the quake,
00:23particularly in Marikina and the province of Rizal,
00:26the executive board did not hide its disdain for the mountains and forests
00:32caused by the earthquakes and the widespread flooding.
00:36Everywhere you go after the storm,
00:42when you see the earthquakes, you only see the top.
00:47Last year, it wasn't a quake. Now, it's a quake.
00:50That's why the President insisted that the government should be stricter
00:55regarding deforestation.
00:57He also insisted that this is no longer about illegal activities.
01:01This is about the safety of the public.
01:04It's life and death over here.
01:06A lot of people are dying because of what they are doing.
01:09So, we have to think more.
01:11The laws are all there. It's the implementation and the enforcement.
01:15The executive board also insisted that impounding dams and river basins
01:19are the best solution for the government to avoid the widespread flooding,
01:23especially in Metro Manila,
01:25which is already included in the flood control projects of the government.
01:29So, the best solution is to build impounding dams upriver
01:39in the river system.
01:41That will serve many purposes.
01:44That will pay for flood control
01:47because the water that should go down to the city will not go down.
01:52Along with distributing relief goods to the Bicolans
01:55who are severely affected by the quake,
01:57DILG Secretary Benher Abalos reminded the Bicolans
02:01to prepare for the possible impact of the calamities
02:05in the face of the Laniña Phenomenon.
02:08Abalos also instructed the Bicolans
02:10to always follow the directives of the authorities,
02:13especially in the case of flood control,
02:15to ensure their safety.
02:17Kenneth Paciente for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
