00:00Political analysts believe that Persatu President Muhyiddin Yassin's sedition charge and the

00:07party's embarrassing defeat in the Ninggeri by-election will not alter its plans at its

00:13elections next month.

00:15Under the plan which Muhyiddin mooted in July, he will stay on as party president while incumbent

00:21Deputy President Ahmad Faizal Azumu will step down and make way for Hamza Zainuddin, the

00:26Perpasatu's secretary-general, to assume his post.

00:30Muhyiddin also proposed that Selangor opposition leader Azmin Ali be offered the secretary-general's

00:36position.

00:37Mazlan Ali of University Technology Malaysia said Muhyiddin will likely retain the leadership

00:43as there does not appear to be any other leader capable of replacing him at the top of the

00:48party.

00:49He said Muhyiddin still holds significant influence and unless the court finds him guilty,

00:54the sedition charge will not prevent him from remaining as president.

00:59Similarly, National Professors' Council fellow Azmi Hassan said he does not see any sign

01:05that the longtime Pagoh MP and former Prime Minister will step down as Persatu president.

01:10Azmi said many Persatu leaders and members still view the sedition charge as being politically

01:16motivated and will not change the party's strategy of keeping Muhyiddin as president

01:21and Hamza as deputy president.
