00:00The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has been told not to proceed with
00:08its plan to require all internet service providers to implement public domain name service redirection
00:14by the end of this month.
00:17Communications Minister Fahmy Fazil said the decision was made after considering the feedback
00:21received through a series of engagements MCMC conducted with the general public.
00:28However, he said MCMC would continue to engage with all stakeholders to gather their feedback
00:34and suggestions to achieve a safer internet.
00:38He said issues of online crimes, including access to gambling sites, pornography and
00:43those promoting prostitution are highly concerning and require a comprehensive solution.
00:50He added that the government will not compromise on this issue to ensure online safety for
00:55Malaysians, particularly children and families.
00:59MCMC yesterday brushed off accusations that they were resorting to draconian measures
01:04to regulate internet traffic via the plan to implement DNS redirection.
01:09The internet regulator claimed only malicious sites were blocked while legitimate websites
01:14were made accessible.
